Usually we spend this time relaxing from a hard ski season and wishing it wasn't so gloomy outside!! This is a time when Roger works on his cars and I try to help but .....
This is kind of boring part of the year, to cold/rainy to do most things. Once it starts to warm up a bit we usually start looking for tomato plants and other nonsense to plant that we have to cover up if we get a late frost!!
The late spring is also when things start to heat up around the race tracks!! Roger is a huge fan of CART and F1 auto racing. I have also become hooked, especially the CART racing.
This is play time!! Taking motorcycle rides, playing tennis, toolin' around in the Corvette and best of all, trips to Virginia & Kentucky!!
Auto racing is now at
full throttle
We are always doing something! We try to be outdoors as much as possible, we even party outside! There is a great bar in downtown Columbus that has a huge outdoor patio/bar and many a summer night has been passed there.
Fall is, of course, FOOTBALL time!! The world revolves around three seperate teams!
- 1. West Jefferson
(High School) Every game is attended whether it be home/away, warm/freezing, rain/shine. I have yet to sit down at a game! Standing at the fence comes with the territory!
- 2. Ohio State Buckeyes
(College) Roger gets season passes to all home games every year, though watching them on tv is so much better!
- 3. Cincinnati Bengals
(Pro) We know, they haven't been doing anything great - but somebody has to be on their side!!
Well.....fall is one of those seasons that isn't as bad as spring but not as good as summer or winter! We usually try to squeeze in a few of our summer activites if the weather holds. Fall is a wonderful time to take trips to Virginia and Kentucky. Much more enjoyable to tramp thru a cemetery when it's 65 instead of 95 degrees!
Fall is also the time we spend eagerly awaiting our favorite pastime of all - SKI SEASON!! No we can't ski yet, but we talk about where we want to go, how early we'll be able to go etc. I usually go to the wonderful world of Gaylan's Sporting Goods and get so excited about skiing I can hardly stand myself (nobody else can either!) and then we wait, wait, watch the weather channell, wait, get a few snow flurries and then.............It's winter!
Well if you haven't guessed by now what we like to do in the winter you haven't been paying attention!!! Winter is the time to SKI!!! You're thinking "wait, they live in Columbus, OH - where do they ski??" Well, there are several nearby places but they are very very small and not much fun, but when you are desperate, they do!! Some of the larger resorts we love to ski are:
PARK CITY, UT - This is a wonderful place to ski. The little town of Park City is very interesting and the accomodations are great!
SEVEN SPRINGS, PA - This is about a 4 hour drive from Columbus, but well worth it!! They have great skiing here even if there is no snow in Ohio!
SNOWSHOE, WV - This is about 7 hours away and a great place for a long weekend ski trip.
