COMMUNITY ACTION COUNCIL
The Community Action Council is a private non-profit social service agency serving the residents of Burnsville, Apple Valley, Eagan, Farmington, Rousemount and Lakeville.
The CAC began in 1971 after many meetings and discussions regarding the need for human services in these six communities. The programs available at CAC include information and referral, kinship, food pantry, clothes closet, emergency transportation, youth programs and the Armful of Love Christmas project.
Originally, funding for CAC was received from churches and local philanthropic groups, and as the center grew United Way of St. Paul became an important factor. Minneapolis United Way also provides funding for a social worker.
CAC is a volunteer agency and always will be; however, a professional staff is necessary in the coordination of programs and day to day activities. The staff works closely with volunteers.
Since its inception, CAC has provided services for over 8,000 persons. CAC is located at 13710 Nicollet Avenue in Burnsville.
