Emma Rose is our much loved and anticipated niece. She was born on August 31st 2000 to my sister Diane and her husband Gord. Following a difficult pregnancy which included a partial placental abruption, she was born premature at 28 weeks gestation. Her birth weight was 2lbs. 11oz. and she measured in at 12 inches. A fighter from the start, her parents, and her doctors were delighted to hear her first tiny cry. Almost miraculously she was breathing on her own. She was immediately taken to the neonatal intensive care unit of Women's College Hospital located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. At the time of this writing 12/09/00 she still resides there in her isolette. Each new day brings her homecoming a little closer and the triumphs and setbacks associated with one born so young. The following pages contain photos and updates on our little Emma's progress. I hope that one day in the not too distant future Emma will be able to view these pages for herself and know how much she truly means to the family who loves her. |
