Henry Talley
Henry Talley
was born in Cumberland County, Virginia, in 1760. He enlisted in the army
in 1780, when he was described as a carpenter, 5 foot, 6 inches in height,
with black hair, fair complexion, and hazel eyes. He was a private in the
First Virginia Detachment. He saw action at the Battle of Camden. He was
in the service again in Gen. Nathaniel Greene's Army. Henry Talley was
also in service a third time. He may have been married before, but he married
Edith Hubbard of
North Carolina on 1 DEC 1795 in the York District of South Carolina. He
moved to Newton County, Georgia, where he became a large-land owner and
planter. He died 4 JUN 1836 in Newton County and may be buried in the cemetery
of Old Salem Baptist Church, Rockdale County, Georgia, where his wife Edith
was a member.
