A Little
About Me
I live in the
beautiful Finger Lakes of New York. I'm married, have four children and
six grandchildren. My most favorite things in the world to do are quilt
and work with the computer. Since I have started designing this web site I
find it very difficult to find time for much quilting.
I'd always wanted to make a quilt but had no idea where to begin. In
1994 my son's girlfriend (now wife) gave him a lapquilt. After studying it
a little, I decided I could do that. So I began teaching myself. Just
started making cardboard templates and very difficult patterns (which I
wasn't aware of until I began to sew). At that time, I thought the only
way to quilt a quilt was by hand so that's how I began. Believe me, once I
realized you could do it by machine that was the end of hand quilting for
me. I'm amazed how well it turned out. Soon it will be pictured on my
Quilts page.
Fortunately, in my area at that time, there were many quilting shows on
T.V. I taped all of them. I learned a lot from Eleanor Burns, Sharlene
Jorgensen, Kaye Wood, Harriet Hargrave, Donna from Fairfield Processing
and many others whose names have slipped my mind.
At that time i had a 1950's or 60's (bought used and am not sure)
singer machine and was trying to do stippling and fancy applique. I was
annoyed most of the time. It seemed as if I had to really tug the fabric
through and the thread kept breaking. After I went out and bought a
Bernina, I really perfected my stippling skills, which is my favorite to
do. Amazingly enough, even my satin stitch for my applique has gotten
considerablly better. I always tell people who compliment my work and say
they couldn't do that---Practice, practice and more practice. It's taken
me 4 1/2 years to begin to be happy with my work.

News-Oct.11, 2002
My username of
quiltress came about because I used to love to quilt. That was before I
became a PSPaholic! The only quilting I have done in the past several
months is making bible covers for my church to take to the girl's
detention home that we go to. As mentioned earlier, I am a homemaker. My children are all grown and
married and out on their own. My husband works the afternoon shift, which
gives me plenty of 'play' time on the computer! *g*
After I discovered the internet, I wanted to display my quilts and some
of the quilt blocks from swap exchanges I was involved in. I obtained this
site at geocities and soon realized I needed to learn HTML. I took several
different classes online and searched for tutorials. I have been a member of PSPUG since April, 1999. I registered with the
WebRing in May, and soon after became a webring checker. I really enjoyed
webring checking as I got to view sites I would never have gone to on my
own. Then in September I was pleasantly surprised when I was asked if I
would like to become Assistant Webring Manager, soon after to be promoted
up to Webring Manager a position I truly enjoyed until I felt it better to
resign and devote more time to the Education Department, which I had
joined in September, 1999, and had been actively involved in teaching some
of the online classes. In January, 2000 I was asked if I would be
interested in becoming Co-Cordinator of the Education Dept. I have to
admit I was more than a little cautious in determining whether I was ready
to commit to that! But almost a year later, I am very happy in my new
position and am finding it for the most part very gratifying. As well as
the above, I also host the Open Forum Chat on Thursday afternoons, 5:00pm
EST on IRC StarChat.Net channel #psp/group so if you get a chance drop on
by and visit. I am proud to be a member of the PSPUG team and always try
to do the best job I can.

News-Dec. 3,2003
It is now December of 2003. I have eight grandchildren now! I'm still involved with PSPUG in the background as Webring co-ordinator and database technician. My hobbies have changed again. I'm now involved in Scrapbooking and Card Making. Instead of using fabric I'm now using paper to make paper piecings for some of my scrapbook pages. If you would like to see some of the cards I've made for Christmas this year, please go to Christmas Cards
I've added the first quilt that I've made (Sampler) on
