Butter Cookies

Ingredients
1/2 c. butter, softened
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In large bowl with electric mixer at medium spped, beat butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla until light and fluffy. In second bowl combine flour, baking powder ad salt. At low speed, beat flour mixture gradually into butter mixture to blend well. Refrigerate, covered, 1 1/2 to 2 hours until firm. Work with one-fourth of the dough at a time; keep remainder refrigerated. Roll out to 1/4-inch thickness between two sheets of wax paper and cut into desired shapes, or mold into shapes. Place on lightly greased cookie sheets, spacing about 1 inch apart; bake 5 to 7 minutes until edges are lightly browned. Cool on wire racks. Store in airtight containers.
