Contra Costa County was founded in 1850 as one of the original 27 counties of California. In 1853, the county was divided into two with roughly the northern half remaining Contra Costa County and the southern half becoming Alameda County. The county seat is in Martinez. At the present time it is unknown and doubtful that this county has an official flag.
