We had been told that these concerts were great ceremonies, and many officials of the Court attended the pre-ceremonial events - especially the banquet - and we should be there too. The Special Ceremonial Foods
and
were served at the banquet as the sacred meal.
We saw people dressed in the official ceremonial garb of flowered shirts, leis, or tropical dress with hats on their heads and some even wore
hats and beads for Gasparilla.
Many carried sacred parrot(t)s of various materials and we assumed these people were office holders in the court.
After the banquet we walked across the street to the Ice Palace to attend the great ceremony.
It was amazing!! The Palace had been turned into a Key West sunset party at Mallory Square. Complete with music, jugglers, and other acts. We watched as the crowd played with a beach ball and tried to win shirts and other gifts. Others paraded around showing off their ceremonial garb. What a great crowd and what a great time we were having.
We found our seats and soon the Great Leader came on stage and immediately the crowd stood at attention and began chanting and singing along while our leader sang. He really knew just what to say to keep us happy. He is an excellent leader of this kingdom and is well loved by all his subjects. He even at one point left the stage and went into the crowd to be closer to those who had come to see and hear him.
What a leader!!!
At one point as every one stood and swayed as the honored and sacred laity of "Fins to the Left, Fins to the Right” was done with rapture and awe.
I still hadn’t been approached to be sacrificed and was beginning to calm down and enjoy myself when just as the concerts second curtain call was finishing and I was gathering my belongings ---
I was grabbed from behind and wisked away by the ...........
Thanks so much Lisa and Raubyn for the great ideas.
