The history of this prayer -- during the Vietnam War....

Wherever I am GOD is !

The light of GOD surrounds me,

The love of GOD enfolds me,

The power of GOD protects me,

The presence of GOD watches over me,

Wherever I am -- GOD is !

In 1965-1966, a recon team from the 101st, AB, Division did continuous

forays into enemy territory.  One mission was a halo jump into North

Vietnam.  Unknowingly this would be their last mission.  The team was

ambushed, survivors were captured by N.V.A.'s and taken to a local

jungle outpost, caged and interrogated beyond human endurance.

One young Army Sergeant was given this prayer by his family which he

kept in his bush hat (Cowboy Style).  Upon capture he secretly hid it and

read it continuously, praying he would die or escape.

Slowly they were moved north from village to village towards Hanoi.  One

rainy night the area was hit by Air Force B-52's saturation bombing.

One of the bombs fell so close that the percussion tore apart the

cage, flinging the young Sergeant into the air.  Trying to rise from the mud

in a daze, he looked over and saw his prayer laying in a puddle.

He retrieved it, set his comrades free and they melted into the dark jungle.

Weeks later, sick and disoriented, the lone survivor crossed the DMZ to

safety.  To this day, he wears this prayer in his hat and remembers

his fallen comrades.

(I want to express this thought -- that when I first read this prayer and

the story behind it's origins -- it deeply touched me.  The power oof prayer

is tremendous and if this prayer somehow or someway helps

our military personnel in Iraq -- then they will know

WHO to thank -- the "MAN" upstairs)
