Downloading
Image Files
If you're using a PC: Save
an image by positioning the cursor on it, then right-click on
it. Choose "Save Image As" from the pop-up box, then
save the image in the desired folder.
If you're using a MAC:
Save an image by holding down the mouse button while the pointer
is over the image. Choose "Save as..." from the pop-up
box then go to the location where you wish to save the image.
AOL USERS: The AOL web
browser is a modified version of Microsoft Internet Explorer (MSIE).
One of the modifications is that by default it
"compresses" graphics to an .ART format. The problem
is that when you save images off web pages in the AOL browser,
they stay in the .ART format - even if they are named with .gif
or .jpg extensions. This means that only the MSIE Web Browsers
can view images on your page - anyone using any other browser
cannot see them!
Too, there is no paint program
that can "read" and edit .ART format, so if you are
downloading images even for non-Web use, you likely won't be
able to use them.
The solution is to turn off the
compression feature. The steps for the latest version of the AOL
browser, are: Select: - Members - Preferences - WWW - Web
Graphics Turn off Compress Graphics
* The other solution is to download and install an un-modified
version of Internet Explorer
or Netscape.
