I Love You, Lord

I have a migraine. Fortunately for me, my husband and children take their job of nursing a sick mommie seriously.

My ten-year-old thrives on taking care of me anytime. She snuggles, cuddles, covers and hugs. She has checked on me a hundred times today already.

Her kind father came home at lunch to check on me and do a few errands for me. He asked her to make sure that I drank plenty of water and hot tea if I wanted it. He also asked her to wash the dishes after lunch.

She sings all of the time. Both of my children do. As she is washing I hear a very loud, strained chorus coming from the kitchen sink area.

"I LOVE YOU, LORD... AND I LIFT MY VOICE!"

She is singing so loud that it is almost bothering me. I started to say something and I hear her lovingly and softly repeating the last line.

"Take joy, my King, In what you hear... let it be a sweet, sweet sound in Your ear," she trails off.

Once again, softly and soulfully she sings--this time completely rewriting the tune to the chorus. She does love her Lord, and it shows. I was so glad that I had not called her down.

Listening to my children live has been a real learning experience for me. It's like taking the time to stop and smell the roses. Many months ago, I asked the Lord why the kingdom of heaven was like children. He keeps showing one more reason every now and then.

"I love you, Lord and I lift my voice,
To worship You, O, my soul, rejoice.
Take joy, my King in what You hear.
Let it be a sweet, sweet sound in your ear."

Mommie, flowers!
