My great grandfather, Charles Wakefield, was born in 1852, in Cowhoneybourne, Gloustershire, England. When he arrived in Canada (year unknown) he changed to the name Thomas Smith (why is unknown. He passed away Jan 19, 1937. In 1886 he married Alice M. Carr, born 1868, England. There is information that the marriage took place in Canada. Alice and Charles (a.k.a. Thomas) had 8 children in this order, Jessie (f), Albert, Harry (my grandfather), Edith, James, William Norman, Howard Thomas & Edgar Alfred. The rest of the ancestral tree is intact from here on. Can ayone help me get back to the Wakefield branch? Both a brother and a cousin of mine have been to England in search of ancestral documentation, without success

Looking for information on Thomas Wakefield born 1618-Gravesend, County Kent, England.  Died Nov. 2, 1697, Charles County, Maryland, USA.  Married to Ann Marler about 1667.  Also may have been married to a Hester about 1636.  Note:  Meagre list of early e igrants from England list Thomas among the passengers transported to Virginia, embarked in the "America", William Barker, Master, June 23, 1635.  Certificate from the minister of the town of Gravesend, of conformity to the order and discipline of the Church of England accompanies it.  May have had two brothers, John and Richard, who came to America also but do not know if they came at the same time as Thomas.  The Wakefield Memorial book, p. 17, says John went to Boston in the early 17th century, making hi home in Martha's Vineyard prior to the year of 1647.  Richard settled in Maryland.

I have never met another WAKEFIELD before in my life.  I don't know anything about the surname WAKEFIELD.  My father has told me that after WWII the family ties were broken.  Grandpa won't tell us to much about his heritage or even the exact number of bro hers or sisters.  My fathers blood mother left when he was five and he thinks her maiden name might have been Ryzenski (I don't know the actual spelling).  I have never met her and he hasn't seen her since.  I have nothing to go on.  But grandpa has been n Michigan almost his entire life.  Where would I even begin?
