Notes for James MORELAND

James was the principal operator of his father's smith business according
to "History of Union County, SC". James, Mary and the eight children and
eight slaves migrated to Union County, SC in the late fall of 1816,
settling on land between Reedy Branch and the Broad River.
This move may have been prompted by Mary's desire to be near her family,
the Garners, who had moved to Union County between 1795 and 1805.
The family moved to Spartanburg District in 1819. They moved back to
Union County after the children left home.
