Spanky Tries to Take a Nap

Spanky's Nap

Spanky sat in the shade in his lawn chair.

He always sat in the chair when his human

friends worked in the yard.

Today was a good day for a nap. Spanky got comfortable and closed his eyes. He was almost asleep when something tickled his ear. His eyes flew open and he twitched his head.

A butterfly flew away.

He checked to see that his human friends were ok. It was his job to watch out for them. Then he closed his eyes, again.

Just as he started to get sleepy, something tickled his nose. He opened his eyes and brushed his nose with his paw.

A tiny fly flew away.

Once again, he tried to sleep. He was just starting to dream about protecting his human friends, when something tickled his foot.

He twitched his foot and opened his eyes.

One of his cat friends was licking his foot.

The next time he woke up, it was because a big pine cone dropped on the ground beside him, making a loud thump.

Just as he settled down again, his human friends came to get him.

"Come on, Spanky. It's time to go for a walk. You're getting too lazy, just sleeping all day."

Poor Spanky!
