Paul's Poems

Of Light and Dark

A Dragon lives in the mountains
A Dragon lives in the caverns.
One has scales of gold tinged white,
One has scales of blood stained black.
Long ago the white swore to protect
The kingdom and valley below,
From the dark armies of the black.
The mountains have three valleys,
At one time long ago there were three kingdoms
The black Dragon destoryed two,
But, the white has protected the third-
For centuries past, never failing
Most people say that they never fight
Each other because they wish to fight
Forever, but I for one know that
They have never fought, because
The black fears the surface light,
And the white the cavern dark.

The Third Power

Last I spoke of two dragons
Yet I forgot the third.
I spoke of white and gold
I also spoke of black and blood.
But what of gray and earth
The one that stands between the two.
I said they fear each other's realm,
But I was wrong, for they truly
Fear the one between.
He could destroy both yet he doesn't
He is one of the few who believes in balance
The gray believes both must live.
He sees both Heaven and Hell as torture.
He looks to Heaven and sees inexperience
There is no lesson that he sees.
Then he looks to Hell where all is pain
He sees flames that cast no shadow
Promises long since broken used as torture
The gray sees that they equal
And so believes that equal they must stay.
Then one day he looked past Heaven
There he found a void,
Looking through the emptiness he saw
Many other worlds and knew that he was
Truly failing in his duties.
From that day he has known the truth
And soon open war will be declared
By the one with scales of gray.
