The Meritorious Service Medal (First Award)

For outstanding meritorious service as Brigade Chemical Staff Officer, 18th Field Artillery Brigade, Fort Bragg, North Carolina from 31 July 1980 to 1 January 1983. Captain Woltz displayed vast ingenuity and resourcefulness in fulfilling his mission of increasing the Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical readiness posture of his Brigade. Through his singular innovative use of training aids and simulants, he greatly increased the training realism of Nuclear, Biological and Chemical defense. He has established a model management system for the training of Individual Ready Reserve personnel assigned to the 18th Field Artillery Brigade. Captain Woltz's exemplary performance reflects great credit upon himself and is in keeping with the proudest traditions of the United States Army.

The Meritorious Service Medal (Second Award)

For exceptionally meritorious service from 25 July 1983 to 29 June 1986 while assigned to the 25th Infantry Division as the Assistant Division Chemical Officer. He implemented an automated management system for the multi-million dollar chemical defense equipment stockage level and funding, which resulted in an increased readiness posture for the division. As a result of his managerial excellence, the division has been cited for its outstanding radiological safety program and its successful participation in the WESTCOM Chemical AccidentIncident, Reaction Program. Major Woltz's exemplary performance of duty is in keeping with the proudest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit and United States Army.

The Meritorious Service Medal (Third Award)

For exceptionally meritorious service while assigned to Headquarters, Department of the Army, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics during the period 13 July 1990 to 1 August 1991. As the only chemical officer on the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics staff at the beginning of Operation Desert Shield, Major Woltz formed the nucleus for and was instrumental in the establishment of a new Chemical Division to execute Joint Chemical Defense Equipment (CDE) logistics. He developed an automated laydown of worldwide CDE assets which trackd and prioritized the issue of CDE from the industrial base to the foxhole. Major Woltz's outstanding accomplishments reflect great credit upon himself, the Army Staff, and the United States Army.
