Child Behavior Scenarios

Written by Dianne Hegarty & Sue Steger for Muir Trail Girl Scout Council

Have scenarios written on 3x5 cards. Break into small groups and  give card to each group to  discuss. Have each group present their ideas back to the whole group. Ask for input from other groups.

You are a Brownie troop leader. It is after campfire and you have sent all the girls to their tents with instructions to get ready for bed and get in their sleeping bags. It has now been 45 minutes, quiet hours have begun, and the girls are all giggling and playing with their flashlights.
  1. What do you do?
  2. Would you do anything differently if they had been Juniors?
  3. What could have been done prior to the campout to avoid the situation?

Prior to your camping trip you have decided on a menu as a troop and all the girls seem to be pleased with the food selection. At your first breakfast, Colleen takes a regular portion of foo but proceeds to push it around her plate. When you encourage her to eat she tells you that it "smells funny". What do you do?

You are a Junior troop leader. Sally, a first time camper, comes to you with a complaint of a stomach ache. She ate very little for dinner. You remind her she didn't have much to eat for dinner and offer her some food. She starts to cry?
  1. What do you suspect is wrong?
  2. What do you do?

You are a Brownie leader. You notice that Jessica is missing kapers because she is always in the tent changing her clothes. She has on the third outfit of the day and you are concerned because you have one more day of camping. Laura reports to you that the tent she shares with Jessica "smells bad".
  1. What do you suspect?
  2. How do you handle it?
