Private Robert Newsom

Robert Newsom was born in Pike County Kentucky about 1839.  He was the son of Frederick Newsom and Ansy Hall.  He married Phena Brown on April 19, 1860 at Beaver Creek in Floyd County.  Their ten children were born at their home on Robinson Creek in Pike County near Biscuit, Kentucky.

He enrolled in Company K the 39th Kentucky Mounted Infantry Regiment on November 16, 1862.  He was honorably discharged and mustered out at Louisville on September 15, 1865.  Robert filed an invalid pension, number 410,833, on September 11, 1880.   His widow filed a pension, number 618,183.

Robert died on March 21, 1918 and was buried in the old Newsom Cemetery at Biscuit.
