VA Garden Photos

A few of these photos I hope to replace with better ones in the future. The ones that are easier to see were scanned. The others were taken with Snappy 3.0 using my video camera on a very sunny day.

The house before any landscaping. Fall of 1996. The front faces slightly East South East. The Blue Ridge mountains are in the background. That really is the color of the clay.

Spring of 1998. All the plants are very small since I went cheap and bought only 1 to 2 gallon size plants. The small tree is the flowering cherry destined to reach 20 feet in height. It is planted no LESS than 12 feet from the house. I intend to prune it to keep it under 20 feet. Many problems people have is planting trees to close to the house. They grow faster than you think.

This is the rock garden I created in the front yard in the spring of 1997. This snap was taken in Jan 1999 on a very sunny day so everything looks washed out.

Closeup of the thuja occidentalis in front of the garage also in Jan 1999 on that same sunny day. These plants are supposed to reach 20 feet high, but the height of the garage can handle it. The peonies and hydrangeas are between though currently dormant. Cedar chips are used for the bedding laid over landsacpe fabric. The beds are bordered with hard plastic edging to keep the grass out.

This is the rock garden I created in May of 1997 in the back. There are celosia, cosmos, italian white sunflowers visible in this photo. And yes, I need to cut the lawn.

Here is the back garden in Jan 1999 seen from the other side. Rocket rolled his ball into it, that is not a new variety of plant.

The vegetable garden is within those posts and is hard to see. Also taken in Jan.1999. Two of the spruce trees are in partially visible.
