Animals of the Zollers "ZOO"

Departed

"Friends" and "Companions"

"....I shall see beauty
but none to match your living grace.
I shall hear music
but none as sweet as the droning song
with which you loved me.
I shall fill my days
but I shall not, cannot forget.
Sleep soft, dear friend...."

Cuddles

Died:  1984

He was our daughter Barb's best friend when we lived in a mobile home park. He loved to get dressed up and play "baby" with the kids. Although he was always on a leash when outside, one day he got loose and someone poisoned him.

Smokey

Died:  Fall of 1986

Smokey took refuge in our mobile home after one of the park workers hit him with a shovel and dislocated his hip. He loved laying under our dogwood tree and sunning himself. He also enjoyed smelling the flowers.

Biscuit (right)

Died:  June 23, 1994

One of the eight kittens born to Pip and Buddy in their only litter. Biscuit loved to curl up and sleep with his daddy, Buddy. Biscuit had long hair like his daddy.

Michael Jackson

Died:  February 15, 1995

He liked sitting and watching the gold fish swim around the aquarium.
He also loved sitting on the back patio, on his Poppop's lap, enjoying mother nature.

Buddy

Died:  April 3, 1995

We believe Buddy was a mixture but he looked mostly like a Maine Coon Cat. My daughter Barb said Buddy followed her home from work one day. I think he had help stowing away. He and Pip got together and had a litter of eight kittens. He was a good daddy and helped Pip take care of their children when it was too much for Pip to handle. He even let them chew at his belly when Pip was otherwise occupied. Buddy also enjoyed laying on his back, in the bathroom window, and sunning his belly.

Turnip

Died:  August 6, 1995

Turnip and his brother Tommy were rescued off the streets of Philadelphia after their mother was run over and killed by a car. They were kind of young to be away from their mother and Turnip only survived about two weeks. See how Tommy has grown up on the "Present" page.

Scooter

Died:  November 5, 1996

Scooter came with our daughter Barb when she moved back home. When Barb's son Kameron was born, Scooter was very protective of him and slept right next to him. As Kameron got older, Scooter loved to hang around with him and sleep on his lap whenever he sat down to watch television.

Patches

Died:  September 19, 1998

Patches was a tiger marked domestic short hair and belonged to our daughter Kristie. Patches favorite past times were to sleep in the kitchen window, watch the gold fish swim around his fish bowl or give you a back rub by kneading for hours with her very strong, clawless, front feet. She enjoyed curling up with the dolls Sandy has in a bassinet and taking a cat nap. She also enjoyed sitting in the napkin basket even though she hung over the edges. Patches was 11 years old and died of complications from congestive heart failure.

Punkie

When my wife's cat "Smokey" had to be put to sleep because of an inoperable brain tumor she did not want to get another cat. The girl's talked her into going to the local SPCA and looking at cats. When she walked past Punky he reached out and grabbed her arm. She put a bid in on him and went to visit him every day until the shelter called and told her she could take him home. He now weighs 18 lbs and is all muscle. He is kind of clumsy and a real baby. He likes to sleep between us, under the covers. He was named after "Punky Brewster" from TV.

In early 2000 Punky developed Diabetes and needed insulin injections twice daily. His weight dropped to 12 lbs and was constantly hungry but we could not let him eat and gain weight. In early 2001 he developed other problems related to the diabetes and his quality of life deteriorated rapidly. Finally on Tuesday, February 27, 2001 we had to have him put to sleep so he would not suffer any more.
