Classroom FeederWatch ©

The students in my class are taking part in The Cornell University Classroom FeederWatch program which is conducted by the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology. We observe, identify and count the birds that come to the feeder, that we installed outside our classroom window, and keep a log.

There are other classes, nationwide, taking part in the program along with our class. We all report our data, via the internet and/or e-mail, to the scientists who are tracking North American bird populations at Cornell University.

So far we have seen cardinals, nuthatches, woodpeckers, finches, sparrows, titmice, chickadees, starlings, and crows at our feeder.

Eventually our data will be put together with all the other data collected and will be published by the scientists at Cornell.

I love bird watching so much that I went home and, with the help of my grand-father, installed my own bird feeders in our yard. We have to buy a lot of feed to keep the feeders full.

At our home feeders we have seen Black Cap Chickadees, Cardinals, Titmice and Nuthatches.
