ST. AUGUSTINE LIGHTSTATION - ST. AUGUSTINE, FL
On Tuesday, July 4, 2000 we visited the St. Augustine Lightstation. Since it was closing as we arrived we did not get a chance to climb to the top. It was built in 1874 of brick and iron at a cost of $100,000. The lighthouse on Anastasia Island is 165 ft. high with 8 flights of spiral staircase. This lighthouse is classified as a "First Order" with a 20,000 candlepower light. The Lightkeepers House contains a museum and gift shop. The tower is open for tours.
