The Bush family that came from Holland has crossed paths with our Bushs from Holland so I have decided to contribute as much information as I possess on them. I receive so many requests for Bush information only to find out they belong to the family from Holland.
The information here was found, by us, while in Frankfort, KY doing research.
Christopher Bush, Sr. and his descendents have played important roles in Hardin County history for almost two hundred years and some of his present-day generation continue to do so. The name has been subject to various spellings: Bush, Busch, Bosch, Boush, ect.
Christopher Bush, Sr. is said to have been born in Holland about 1730 and came to America circa 1750, and to Kentucky at the end of the Revolutionary War with Colonel John Hardin and others. He died January 16, 1813. His wife, Hannah, who died January 19, 1835, married him in Virginia, according to their grandson, Squire Helm Bush, who died in Elizabethtown, August 13, 1925.
Much information as to the Bush family has been compiled by William Christopher Bush of 8613 Camille Drive, Huntsville, AL, a grandson of Squire H. Bush and thus fifth in line of descent from the pioneer "Christy" Bush. A copy of Mr. Bushs work is on file in the library of the Hardin County Historical Society at the Brown-Pussey House in Elizabethtown, KY.
Bush and his sons were stalwart men of great muscular power. Bush was a farmer, a constable of Hardin County, and captain of patrollers. Thomas Lincoln served as a patroller under Christopher Bush. Bush and his son, Samuel, were plaintiffs in the first law suit ever tried in Hardin County in April 1793.
