John Hart was born around 1810 in Ashe County, North Carolina, the third child of Peter Hart (Jr.) and Hannah Poe. He married Permelia Ann Cain, a member of the Cain family that ultimately moved to Mercer County, Missouri, and founded the town that bears their name, Cainsville.
After Permelia died (sometime after 1840 and before 1846), John married Rachel Davis, in 1846.
John was the father of 14 children, 4 with Permelia and 10 with Rachel. He died about 1870.
