Notes: The information is inaccurate in 1840. It seems the family was broken up or the person who gave the information didn't know them very well. Where is everyone in 1860?
Additional note: The age of Sarah in the 1830 census is that of the younger Sarah, not his first wife who should have still been alive.

Miscellaneous Notes:

You can find him (William) and his second wife, Sarah Smith, on the 1850 Census, from Ross Co, Huntington Twp, OH, p 314. He gave his age as 58, b in Penn, a farmer. His wife Sarah , age 38, b in OH. The two oldest children listed were from his first marriage to Sarah Albright. They were Isaac, age 23, Phillip age 20. He married Sarah Smith 15 May 1834, in Perry Co., OH.The children from the second marriage listed in 1850, were Sarah age 16, Errel age 13, Petter age 5, Elsian age 3, and Rebecca age 2. The land records indicate that they sold their property in Ross Co., Nov. 1855. (FHL # 341484 , p 62, 522-525.).

This is a picture of William Crists headstone as it looked in 1974 in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Bloomington, Illinois. William, Sarah, and Elsie (their daughter) are on three different sides of the monument. The fourth side is blank. Elsie's side is almost unreadable due to exposure to the sun.


This indenture, made this first day of May, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty five, between Isaac W. Crist, of the County of Ross, in the state of Ohio - party of the first part and William Crist, also of the county of Ross, and State aforesaid - party of the second part - Witnesseth that the said party of the first part - for and in consideration of the sum of Three hundred dollars to him on hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have granted, barganed and conveyed and confirmed and by these presents, do grant bargain convey and confirm unto the said party of the second part - his heirs and assigns forever ? that tract or parcel of land situated lying and being on the waters of Indian Creek in the County of Ross in the state of Ohio - bounded and dewscribed as follows - to wit beginning at two white oaks Northeast corner of William Lockwoods lot of 70 acres part of Survey No. 14,586. thence N72 (degrees) E. fifty one poles to a stake between W. B. Sumderland and one thence South to Aaron Cornscoys line, thence with said line S47(degrees) W. with Aaron Cornscoys line to a stake at the southeast corner of William Lockwoods tract., thence with Lockwoods line North one hundred and forty three poles - to the beginning containing forty one acres more or less - more or less Part of Survey No. 14,586 - To have and to hold - the said tract of land, with all the priviledes and appurtinances thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining unto the said party of the second part, his heirs and assignes forever - and the said party of the firstpart for himself, his heirs, escruitors and administrators, will Warrand ? forever, defend the premises herin and hereby granted unto the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns against ?ful claims of all and every person, In testimony whereof ? of the first part has hereunto set his hand and seal this day ? ? above written. Know all men by these presents that William Crist and Sarah Crist - wife of the said William Crist - of the County of Ross, and state of Ohio, in consideration of the sum of two thousand dollars in hand paid by Michael Lebeau, of the County and State aforesaid have bargained sold and do hereby grant bargain, sell and convey unto the said Michael Lebeau, and to his heirs and assignes forever the rollowning premises, with the appertenances situate in the Township of Huntington, County of Ross and State of Ohio in several parcels bounded nd described as follows - to wit
--The first tract - Beginning at the North westerly of John McDonald Survey No 3501 - of three Hundred acres thence with his line E64. poles to three white oaks in said - thence 25(degrees) W. 24 poles to two white oaks and hickory thence N 69 (degrees) W. 100 poles to origen? thence South 20 (degrees) W. 24 poles crossing a branch at 40 poles to a stake, thence South 72 (degrees) E 42 poles to a white oak thence South East 30 poles to a white oak corner to said McDonalds survey - thence with said line N?0(degrees) E. 40 poles to the place of Beginning containing fourty acres more or less being part of Warrant - No 5877.
-- Secondly another tract bounded and described as follows Beginning at ? ? ? of said McDonalds Survey of the 300 acres on Indian Creed running thence South 10(degrees) East 160 poles to two black oak and a dogwood in another of said McDonalds S?, thence witht the last mentioned line S70(degrees)W103 poles to a shite oak and two dogwoods, thence North 10(degrees)W134 poles to a white oak and hickory thence N39(degrees)E24 poles to a white oak thence N17(degrees) E ?poles to two white oaks and hickory, thence E64 poles to the place of Beginning containing one hundred and four? a ? acres be ? same more or less being the two tracts of Land conveyed ? the said William Crist by D. Overly Crist by deed - dated ? September of AD 1851? not yet recorded.
--The third tract, Beginning at a black oak, South corner to Ladd & Narvells survey? thence with a line thereof N29 1/2 W.43 poles to a a white oadk corner to said survey - thence with another line thereof N72(degrees) W6 1/2 poles to a black oak in said line - thence South 10(degrees)E.53 1/2 poles to a white oak and a hickory corner to John McDonalsds Survey No 3501 thence with a line thereof N39(degrees)E24 poles to the beginning estimated to contain three acres be the sum more or less being part of survey No. 14,959 patented by the U.S. to E. P. Rendrich and conveyed by him to James Riley and by said Riley and his wife, conveyed to the said William Crist by deed dated October 18, 1852 and not yet recorded.
--The fourth tract situate lying and being on the waters of Indian Creek also and bounded and described as follows - to wit - Beginning at two white oaks Northeast corner of William Lockwoods lot of 90 acres part of Survey No 14,586 - thence N72 (degrees)E fifty one poles to a stake, between W. B. Sunderland & I. W. Crist. Hence South to Aaron Cornsys line, thence with said line S47(degrees)W. with A. Comscoys line to a stake at the Southeast corner to William Lockwoods. tract ? with Lockwoods line North 143 poles to the beginning containing forty one acres, more or less - bring part of Survey No 14,586 and being the same premises sold and conveyed to the said William Crist - by Isaac W. Crist by deed dated May 1st, 1853= to have and to hold said premises several tracts or several parcels of Land with the appertenances into the said Michael Lebeau and his heirs and assigns forever - and the said William Crist for himself, and his heirs does hereby covenant with the said Michael Lebeau and his heirs and assigns - that he is lawfully seized of the said several tracts or parcels of land with the appurtenances that the same are free and clear from all encombaraces whatever - and that he will forever warrant and defece the same with the appurtenances unto the said Michael Lebeau and his heirs and assigns against the lawful claims of all persons whomsoever.
