Da MOVE, 2007, 2008, 2009

Georgia to Tennessee

June, 2007 to July 2008 to May 2009

We signed the contract for our new home on June 4, 2007 and the closing was set for June 28th. We planned to move a little at a time and gradually phase out of our life in Georgia and into a new life in Tennessee. Little did we know that there would be a few obstacles along the way.

June 28, 2007

Here we are in front of our new home on the day of the closing, June 28th. Note that the front door is open because the previous occupants are still moving out. We made adjustments in case any damage showed up from the move but we still closed.

This is our new home the day we gained possession. Note the cargo van sticking out of the garage. We brought furniture for our guest bedroom and a few other items.

Our daughters had a 40th wedding anniversary party for us in our new home.

Here I am posing with the dining room table which along with some other furniture composed our second cargo van load of furniture. Thanks to a good friend for helping load it and to son-in-law, Shea, for helping unload it.

Here I am back in Georgia. Note I am quite a bit smaller. The story of this break in the move can be found by clicking here.

Here I am in Cardiac Rehab. As I said above, you can learn more than you wanted to know about this event by clicking on my New Beginning story.

I had a friend, Larry, ride with me and help unload on my first trip back after the surgery. We hauled a pickup truck load of small tools and stuff from our storage room/workshop.

Donna and I got to know this rest stop along I-75 as it became a regular stop on our trips. We often packed sandwiches and ate lunch here.

Our new living room begins to take shape. Here Donna sits on our new couch. Note the floor is still bare and there are no end tables or lamps.

There were acknowledgements that relationships were in a changing state. But no goodbyes were said as our relationship with Georgia and friends in Georgia will hopefully never end.

We had a moving sale to find new homes for some of the things we felt we would no longer need. A few of the objects in this photo were removed as we thought of uses for them after all.

Friends kept asking when we were going to move. I think it happened this day when we took Dee Dee and both vehicles to Tennessee. Dee Dee's orientation to her new home was a primary concern.

This rest stop along Nickajack Lake is another of our favorite spots. We tried to make each trip a relaxing event and enjoy the scenery along the way.

This was our temporary computer setup for awhile. It was good to be back on line but this situation was greatly enhanced by the addition of a sturdy card table.

Here is Dee Dee's apartment. It is warm and cozy and a place she can be confined until she becomes acquainted with the yard and the new dangers to her safety.

Here is our new area rug and and new recliner. Note the lamps in the background waiting for end tables to be placed upon.

November 19, 2007

We decided to take a cargo van down and pick up the packed boxes we had all over the house. Here is Donna at a southbound rest stop having lunch.

November 20, 2007

We loaded the van full of boxes plus we were able to get in end tables and the coffee table and a little more furniture for storage.

November 20, 2007

Loading the cargo van is an art. I think I was getting pretty good at by now. It is surprising how much one can get into a cargo van if you can fill all the voids.

We wanted to get the house acceptable to show to a real estate agent on our next trip. Every time something is moved, more cleaning is required.

November 20, 2007

We spread all the boxes out in the garage and moved items inside the house as we needed them or had places to put them.

November 22, 2007

One of our goals when we bought the home in Tennessee was to have Thanksgiving dinner there. Here we are all set for the food and the family.

December 13, 2007

We made another trip to Georgia to meet with our agent and get our house on the market. It's a great home for someone who wants a secluded home in the Georgia pines with lots of privacy.

December 23, 2007

We celebrated Christmas in our new home with all the family. It was great that noone had to travel long distances to get together as we always have in the past.

December 27, 2007

Between Christmas and New Years, son-in-law, Stan took his trailer down to Georgia and brought back our master bedroom furniture plus some other shelving.

February 27, 2008

As snow fell on the deck of our Tennessee home and Winter deepened, we continued to make trips to Georgia and brought back a few items each time.

March 2, 2008

Signs of Spring were evident when we took the pickup to bring back a refrigerator to use in the garage for extra drinks. Some of these trips included visits with friends and relatives.

March 19, 2008

The Bradford Pears were in full bloom as more trips were made. The grill for the deck and the additional chairs comprised one load.

March 19, 2008

We discovered that we were not the only ones moving into our home. This bird, which I think is a dove, lived here last Summer and now she has moved in again.

March 24, 2008

I made a trip down to clean up the yard after a tornado had struck downtown Atlanta. These Decorative Plums were beautiful along the southbound reststop as snow flurries flew.

March 27, 2008

Fortunately there was no damage at our house and the lawn cleaned up with relative ease. Grass is growing faster in Tennessee than at our Georgia home probably because of last year's severe dought and more shade. This single Tulip was blooming by the deck fence.

July 2, 2008

Time passed and Summertime rolled around. A year has come and gone since we had bought our new home. I made a quick trip to haul back the clay pots from the deck along with a few other items.

July 2, 2008

I had to empty the dirt out of the clay jar before it could be lifted into the back of the pickup. The planters were loaded dirt and all.

July 3, 2008

After the usual rest stop, I got off the Interstate at Resaca and drove along Hwy 41 all the way to Manchester. The Rosemary bush can be seen in the back of the truck.

July 3, 2008

I stopped at this Marion County Park, known as Shellmound, to have my lunch on a picnic table. It was a beautiful ride through small towns all decked out for the 4th of July.

Our move was substantially completed in July, 2008. All in all, everything has pretty much fallen into place as planned. There were a few changes in room function because we could not get the couch upstairs. But that change may have been for the best. It is good to have the move in the rear view mirror.

For the record, we closed on our home in Geogia on May 18, 2009 and hauled our final van load of belongings to Murfreesboro. Now we can say this chapter is finally closed.
