"You Just Don't Know, Do You?"
My dear husband,
You just don't know, do you,
Why I act the way I do?
You're puzzled and confused
I don't think and act like you.
You reach out and touch me,
so gently, so kindly --
And when I recoil, you wonder so blindly --
And you just don't know, do you?
I talk and explain
"It's my daddy again"
But you just don't know, do you?
I tell you the pain is all just the same,
But you really don't know, do you?
I try, and I cry, I even plead "God, Why!?"
And you still don't know, do you?
You hope and you pray that I'll be healed "some day,"
But you just don't know, do you?
You think you're OK --
That your slate is clean --
And how could I ever think...
After all, you've asked what more can you do.....
But you just don't know, do you?
So day after day,
and night after night,
The distance grows greater,
The gulf ever wider,
And you wonder what's wrong,
You just don't know, do you?
You want all the answers to come from my mouth,
And my ears to be the only ones to hear
Your questions, frustrations, cries, and demands;
And you wonder why deeper and deeper I withstand...
You just don't know, do you?
I say read this, and read that,
talk to him, and to her;
but you can't, or you won't, or just a little, perhaps;
Yet not enough to receive for your own aching soul
the healing, the loving, the relief you so need...
I can't do it all for you, my love, my sweet,
But you just don't know, do you?
"I poured out my complaint before the Lord,
and He heard my cry."
