Jacob's Ladder

Love came down and touched my face

Wiped my tears, took my place

Love came down and washed my feet

Gave me clothes and food to eat.

Took my fears, gave me strength amidst the pain

Through all the loss there came great gain.

How I long to see His face

Touch his clothes - feel His grace.

How I wonder at His grace

Given to me at my greatest need

An infinite amount for my soul to feed.

O Lord, give me the words to say

A gentle touch, a glance their way.

For those who find themselves in the midst of the fray

Who wonder if you are even here.

Show them, Lord, that you are near.

How awesome are your works, O Lord

By your side I'll never be bored.

Inspiring though your words may be,

It's your life you gave that set me free!

The life you live that gives me hope

For which I have no reason to mope.

Let me have the words to say

WHen it comes to that faithful day

When I see you face to face

And know the wonder of your grace

And all doubt flees without a trace.

When I'm there in heaven above

Surrounded by your perfect love

When that day comes, who will know?

But with You I'll surely go

To that place so far away

Where my kids can play all day

Where I can rest to my heart's content

Where I never again have to pay any rent.

His glorious grace will be music to my ears

And I'll be free from any other person's leers.

And on that day you've promised me

That you'll be with me for eternity.

Thank you for your humbleness

In the midst of shame you gave me grace

And helped me see my proper place

In your world and in your face

That I belong to you forevermore

Never again to be left all alone

No more isolation

But instead, a cause for celebration

For the life you gave back to me

That was never intended to be so free

Or full of love and joy, you see

For many had another plan

For my destruction by their hands

But that was not the way it went

For I believe you were heaven sent

To take my place and stand in stead

To take my punishment on your head.

I was saved from the death that was promised me

Instead, you came and died for me

On a tree at Calvary

So that one day I might see

Your awesome plan to rescue me

And you restored to me my dignity.

And as if that weren't enough

You helped me smooth the edges that were rough

And refine my heart of hardened steel

Into gold - Precious and lasting, and anything but cold.

Lord, for these gifts, what can I say?

All I know to do is pray

Make my heart like yours

All I am and all I have

I give to You, O Lord

Make me what you want me to be

So that someday, all will see

The wonder that your life in me

Has made.

The wonder of your life in me

Transformed by your awesome power

Available to all at any hour.

Because you love me and in your gentle way

You will be changing me day by day.

Until that day when we will finally know,

What it really cost you to help me grow

Into the person you knew I could be

By your choice You set me free.

O Lord Jesus, be my guide

Keep me always by your side.
