Troop 258's Silver Award Projects

Four girls in our troop completed their Silver Award projects and received their pins on June 3, 1999. Another girl completed hers the following year and received her pin on
June 1, 2000. Below is a brief description of their projects.

Jamie-Lynn's project involved working with senior citizens at the local nursing home. Activities included a Valentine project, a spring mother's day project, nail painting, and several plant projects. She also planted a live garden outdoors for the seniors to enjoy.

Taryn worked with different Junior Girl Scout troops on the requirements to earn the Dance badge. She taught the girls the basics of ballet, tap and jazz, as well as folk dances and their origins. She also researched different careers in dance such as choreography and stage management and distributed the information to the girls. Each session culminated in a dance party where the girls performed some of the dances they had created.

Michelle's project involved working with second grade students at her church's CCD program. The children did hand prints on fabric and Michelle showed them a video and read them a story about what they were learning. Approximately 280 children participated in the program. The finished projects were given to the seventh graders who were the second grader's "guardian angels".

Laura's project involved teaching children about bicycle safety and collecting used bicycles for needy children. She made up flyers asking people to drop off bikes at a local bicycle shop and 100 bikes were collected. Laura contacted local civic organizations for donations to repair the bikes, and local schools, churches and other organizations gave her the names of families who could use the bikes. She also held a coloring contest about bike safety for grades K-2 with the winner receiving a bicycle helmet.

Jamie's project involved working with younger troops. She did crafts projects with many different troops ranging from Daisies to Juniors. She worked closely with the leaders to decide on the project and sometimes enlisted the help of her fellow scouts to help out with the troops. She also collected canned goods for the food pantry from the troops she worked with.
