Elijah Johnson
To No. 424 Isham Wood
17th December 1840
State of South Carolina, Spartanburg District.
Know all men by these presents that I Elijah Johnson, of the state &
District of aforesaid, for and in consideration of the sum of six hundred
dollars, to me in hand paid by Isham Wood of the District and state
aforesaid, have granted, bargained, sold and released, and by those
presents do grant, bargain, sell and release unto the said Isham Wood and
his heirs and assigns forever, a certain tract of land, bounded on both
sides of the Buncombe Road including the head of a small branch of
Abner's Creek, beginning on a black jack , 3x on Baylis Earles line, and
bounds on said line, S 65 E. 50 to a stake, thence S 55 W 12 to a sourwood
on the head of a small branch thence the meanders of said branch to the
mouth, down the branch to Wm. Nelson's line, thence N 50 W on said line
36.75 to a post thence S. 45 W. 12 to a corner, thence due West to a stone,
thence N. 63.50 to a point, thence E. 25 chains to a pine 3x Andrew
McElrath's corner, thence on the said McElrath's line S 65 E 5 chains to a
black Jack, the beginning, including three hundred and fifty eight acres,
more or less, together with and singular the rights, members,
hereditaments and appertenances, together with all and singular the rights,
members, hereditaments or in any wise incident or appertaining to have
and to hold all and singular the premises before mentioned unto the said
Isham Wood, his heirs and assigns forever and I do hereby bind myself,
my heirs, executors & administrators to warrant and forever defend all and
singular the said premises unto the said Isham Wood, his heirs, executors
and administrators and assigns against myself, my heirs, executors and
administrators and against any other person or persons xxxxxxx lawfully
claiming or to claim the same or any part thereof. July 25, 1840 in the
sixtyfifth year of the independence of the United States of American, as
witness my hand and seal signed sealed and deliever in presence of

Personally came James D. Wood one of the subscribing witnesses to the
written deed of conveyance and made oath, and testified on said oath in
form of law, and testitfied on said oath that he was present and saw Elijah
Johnson, sign, seal and deliver the within deed of conveyance to Isham
Wood for the use and purposes within mentioned, and that he also saw
Oliver P. Wood, sign his name as witness together with himself to the xxx
execution of the same, sworn to before me 4th October 1840.

I Thomas Leonard one of the Justices of the Quorum for said District do
hereby certify unto all whom it may concern that the wife of the within
named Elijah Johnson (towit) Casandra Johnson, did this day appear
before me and being privately and separately examined before me did
declare that she did freely, voluntarily without any compulsions annd or
fear of any person or persons whomsoever renouce, release and forever
relinquish unto the within named Isham Wood, his heirs and assigns, all
her interest and estate, and also all her right and claim of dower. Of in
and to all said singular the premises within mentioned and released,
given under my hand and seal, October 12th, 1840
