Page 262 The following deed of conveyance from Daniel Kelley to JOHN JONES was proven before Henry M. Wood Esquire by the oath of William Write and recoded this fourteenth day of March AD 1791

Indenture made the twelth day of May 1790 between Daniel Kelley of Greenville County and JOHN JONES of same ……. Consideration of the sum of fifty pounds sterling …..all that tract of plantation of land containing two hundred acres more or less being or lying on the dividing ridge between N. & S. fork of Saluda River …. S. Earls land ….. Fosters land …..being part of two tracts one granted by his excellency Wm. Moultrie in the year one thousand seven hundred eighty-five in

page 107-108 The following deed of conveyance from Batte Birdsong to JOHN JONES being provisions before James Kilgore ?? by the oath of Ephraim Rees was presented and recorded this 17th day of September 1798. This indenture made this eleventh day of April and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety-six and of sovereignty and independancy of the United States of North American the twentieth between Batte Birdsong of the one part and JOHN JONES of the other part of the County of Greenville and state of South Carolina witnesseth that for and in the consideration of the sum of sixty pounds sterling money in hand paid to the said Birdsong by the said JOHN JONES at as before the sealing and delivering of this presents the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge and therefore doth acquit and discharge the said Jones his heirs and assigns by these presents and the said Batte Birdsong doth by these presents bargain sell grant alien and confirm unto the said JOHN JONES his heirs or assigns a certain parcel of land situate in Greenville County and state of S. Carolina lying between Horse Pen Creek and Guilden Creek being part of a tract of land granted to said Batte Birdsongs in the date one thousand seven hundred and ninety-one containing 1262 acres the parcel of which this is sold to said Jones is as follows, beginning at a post oak a corner tree and running S7b E. E. to a stake thence on a line running N 113 W 38 E. 50 links to Guildew Creek thence the various courses of the creek to aline running S.61E55 and along to a pine thence S 30 W 23 to a pine thence S 53 to a post oak thence ad direct line to the beginning supposed to be three hundred acres better same more of less on all houses waters heriditaments claim rent profits titles and interest whatsoever to the said premises which said Birdsong was ? off concerning the said land to him the said JOHN JONES his heirs or assigns to have and hold the said parcel of land hereby conveyed and every part and parcel thereof until the said JOHN JONES his heirs or assigns forever and the said Birdsong doth covenant and grant ?? perfect and defensible right and title in ?? of the premises here by granted and that they now are and shall remain free from all former gifts grants and incumbrances whatsoever and that the said Batte Birdsong his heirs or successors shall by these presents warrant and forever defend the rights and title of said premises hereby granted. page 114 - 115 The following deed of conveyance from William Mitcherson to JOHN JONES being proven before James Kilgore Esq. By the oath of Edward Mitcherson was presented and recorded this 21 day of Sept 1798 State of South Carolina This indenture made this seventh day of November in the year of our Lord 1793 between William Micherson of the one part and of Greenville County and JOHN JONES of Spartanburg County of the other part both of state aforesaid witnesseth that for and in the consideration of the sum of Sixty pounds sterling money to him in hand paid by the said JOHN JONES at of before the sealing and delivering of these presents receipt is hereby he doth acknowledge and therefore doth acredit and discharge the said JOHN JONES his heirs and successors by these presents and the said William Mitcherson doth by these presents bargain sell grant alline and confirm unto the said JOHN JONES his heirs or assigns a certain parcel of land situate in Greenville county state aforesaid lying on Guilders Creek being a part of a tract of land surveyed by said Mitcherson and granted to him containing 396 acres the parcel of which tract is sold to said Jones is as follows: Beginning a Guilders creek wheresaid Mitcherson’s line corners to the creek and thence running up the various courses of said creek to where it intersects with P. Mitchersons line of his old survey then alon gthat line until it corners to the Cold Branch thence up the various courses of said branch to the head and then to continue a direct line as the course of the branch was to P. Mitcherson’s line then on that line to Batte Birdsong’s corner a stake then on said Birdsongs line running N43 W38 150 to the said creek the beginning station supposed to be one hundred acres be the same more of less and all houses waters heriditaments claims prophets rents titles and interests whatsoever to the said premises which said Mitcherson was seized of concerning the said parcel of land to him the said JOHN JONES his heirs or assigns to have and to hold the said land hereby conveyed and every part and parcel thereof unto the said JOHN JONES his heirs an assigns forever and the said Mitcherson doth covenant and grant a good ?? and indefenible right and title in feesimple of the premises here by granted and that they now are and shall remain free from all forms gifts grants and incumberances whatsoever that the said

page 140 The State of South Carolina. Know all men by these presents that I JOHN JONES of Spartanburg District of the State aforesaid for and in consideration of seven hundred dollars to me in hand paid James Kilgore of Greenville District in the State aforesaid. I have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain sell and release unto the said James Kilgore his heirs and assigns forever all that tract of parcel of land supposed to contain five hundred acres be the same more or less. Situate in Greenville District in the State aforesaid on both sides of Gilders Creek and two small branches of the Horsepen Creek all waters of Enoree River including the Plantation wherein said JOHN JONES formerly lived also the plantation wherein WILLIAM JONES now lives bounding on James Mcrary, John Greer, Henry T. Walker and Archabald Lesters land including the full lands conveyed from William Mitcheson to said JOHN JONES by deed of conveyance beaming date the seventh day of November in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and ninety five and recorded in the clerks office in Greenville district in Book E Page 114 & 115 the 21st Sept 1798. For one hundred acres more of less. Also all that tract of parcel of land supposed to contain three hundred acres, conveyed by deed from Barthe Birdson to said JOHN JONES the eleventh day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety-six and recoded in the clerks office aforesaid in Book E page 107 & 108 the seventh day of Sept 1798. Which includes the full land to be conveyed be the same more of less. Together with all and singular the rights members hereditaments and appertanances to the said premises belonging or in anywise incident or appertaining thereunto unto the only proper use hathout of him the said James Kilgore his heirs executors administrators and assigns forever. And I do hereby bind myself my heirs executors and administrators to warrant and forever defend the above described premises unto the said James Kilgore his heirs executors administrators and assigns for and against myself my heirs executors and administrators and against every other person or persons whomsoever lawfully claiming or to claim the land or any part thereof. Witness my hand and seal this fourteenth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and three and in the twenty eighth year of the Independence of the United States of America

South Carolina Greenville District – personally came John Greer on e of the subscribing witness to the within deed before me Henry T. Walker one of the justices of the District aforesaid and made oath that he saw JOHN JONES sign and as his seal act and deed deliver the within deed for the uses and purposes therein mentioned and that WILLIAM JONES together with himself subscribed their names as witnesses to the deed. Execution of the same. Sworn to and subscribed before me this 15th of November 1803.

page 141 The State of South Carolina. Know all men by these presents that I Penwell Wood of Greenville District in the State aforesaid for and in consideration of ten pounds to me in hand paid by James Kilgore of the State and district aforesaid I have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell and release unto the said James Kilgore his heirs and assigns forever. All that tract or parcel of land containing one thousand acres of land originally granted to said Penwell Wood. By patent having date the third day of December in the year one thousand seven hundred and ninety-eight – recorded in Grant book S No. 5 page 323. Situate in Spartanburg District in the state aforesaid on both sides of Burns Creek waters of Tyger river and some branches of Enoree River bounding on ?? for and land Merrimon and Samuel Burns lands and all rounds a tract of one hundred two acres originally granted to Arasomes Nobles and hath such shape and form as will more fully appear from a plat annexed to said grant. Together with all and singular the rights members hereditaments and appurtances to the said premises belonging or in any wise incident or appertaining thereunto and the said Penwell Wood doth heregy bind himself his heirs executors and Administrators to warrant and forever defend all and singular the above described premises unto the only proper use and behoof of him the said James Kilgore his heirs executors and administrators and assigns forever against him the said Penwell Wood his heirs executors and adminstrators and no futher

Witness my hand and seal this seventeenth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and three and in the twenty-eighth year of the Independence of the United States of America

State of South Carolina Greenville District: Personally came John Greer one of the subscribing witnesses to the within deed and being sworn by due form of law saith on said oath, viz that he saw Penwell Wood assign seal and deliver the within as his seal act and deed for the uses and purposes therein mentioned and that he saw John Irvin likewise subscribe his name as a witness to the same at the same time. page 199 Know all men by these presents that we Thomas Jones and Martha Jones his wife of the State of South Carolina and district of Greenville for and in consideration of the sum of Two Hundred Dollars to us in hand paid by John Sewell of the district aforesaid and before the sealing and delivery of these presents, Hath granted bargained sold released and confirmed unto the said John Sewell all that plantation or tract of land situated lying and being within district aforesaid on Saluda River, containing two hundred acres be the same more of less, beginning at John Westfields corner, black gum on Saluda River from thence to a sowerwood corner, thence a northy course to JOHN JONES’ line from thence to Archable Paine’s corner black oak, thence along said Paine line to a corner black gum on said River thence down the meanders of said river to the beginning corner. Together with all and singular the rights members, hereditaments and appurtenances to the said premises belonging or in any wise incident of appertaining to have and to hold all and singular the said premises unto this said John Sewell his heirs and assigns forever, and we do bind ourselves, our heirs, and representatives to warrant and do forever defend all and singular the above bargained premises unto the said John Sewell his heirs and assigns, against ourselves and our heirs executors and against all and every person lawfully claiming or to claim the same or any part thereof. In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and affixed our seals this 12th day of May one thousand eight hundred and eight.
