Death of a Venerable Man.

Mr. David Stoddard died at the Riverside Hotel in this City on Sunday morning last, from dropsy, after a sickness of about one month. Four or five years ago, he moved to Greenville from Laurens County. He afterwards married Mrs. Eliza Stone of this City, with shom he has lived most happily. For fifty years or more he lived in the vicinity of New Harmony Church of which he was an elder many years. His remains were conveyed to New Harmony Church on Monday, in the yard of which he was buried, after services by Rev. D. A. Todd. A good man has gone to his final rest.

Col W. H. Goodlett of Reid post office says that the rain of Monday afternoon did not reach up as far as where he lives to any considerable extent.

Mr. C. D. Smith of Pelzer reports that many of the farmers in the lower section of this County are planting their cotton seed overagain(sic).

Frank Williamson, colored, who is an applicant for the postmastership in this City, has gone to Washington

W. S. Meeks, for a long time connected with the Telephone office in this City, but who is now connected with an similer(sic) service in Savannah, is visiting his home here.

Col. D. K .Norris of Pendleton, a leading member of the Farmers' Alliance, was in town last Saturday

Mr. J. L. Woodside, a son of Dr. J. L. Woodside, was in Guthrie Oklahoma during the (torn)

Mrs. L. B. Jones and daughter are spending a few days at Chick Springs.

The Mountain City Band have been engaged to go to Walhalla on the 21st inst.

The Confederate soldiers' graves in Springwood Cemetery and in the Episcopal Cemetery of this City, were decorated with flowers on last Friday afternoon. The attendance of citizens was large and and (sic) the weather was propitious. Prayers were offered-in the first named by Rev. Mr. Willson, and in the second by Rev. Mr. Rose - followed by appropriate vocal music.

Death of Mrs. Wood

Mrs. Nancy Ermine, wife of Mr. John w. Wood, of this City, died at their residence on Falls Street, last Monday night, after a week or more of painful illness. About a week or ten days ago, she became paralyzed, from the effects of which she never rallied. The deceased was a woman distinguished in her home life for filling most faithfully the relations of wife, mother, neighbor and friend. As a member of the Baptistt(sic) Church, she led a life most consistent with its principles. She was born near this City October 8th, 1826, hence she was in the sixty-second year of her age. She leaves a husband and three children, besides numerous grand-children and friends to mourn her death. Her funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at her late residence.
