The first records of Christmas trees are from Germany in 1605, although it probably has its roots in Yggdrasil the "Tree of Life" in Norse Mythology.
The first recorded candle-lit Christmas tree was at Wandsbek Castle, near Hamburg, Germany, in 1796.
Christmas trees were brought to America by the Hessians, German missionaries who fought for the British during the Revolutionary War.
In 1852, Mark Carr opened the first commercial Christmas tree lot in the United States, in New York City.
Arguably the most popular Christmas Tree in the world is the tree at Rockefeller Center, in New York City. Each year it is a Norway Spruce, at least 65 feet high, and is visited by about 8 million people.
