A merry heart doth good like a medicine. from Proverbs 17:22

AUTO CLAIMS

The following quotes taken from the Toronto News on July 26, 1977, are actual statements from insurance forms where car drivers tried to summarize accident details in as few words as possible.

1. Coming home I drove into the wrong house and collided with a tree I don't have.

2. The other car collided with mine without giving warning of its intent.

3. I collided with a stationary truck coming the other way.

4. In my attempt to kill a fly, I drove into a telephone pole.

5. I had been shopping for plants all day and was on my way home. As I reached an intersection, a hedge sprang up, obscuring my vision and I did not see the other car.

6. I had been driving for forty years when I fell asleep at the wheel and had an accident.

7. I was on my way to the doctor with rear end trouble when my universal joint gave way causing me to have an accident.

8. My car was legally parked as it backed into the other vehicle.

9. As I approached the intersection a sign suddenly appeared in a place where no sign had ever appeared before, making me unable to avoid the accident.

10. I told the police I was not injured, but upon removing my hair, I found that I had a fractured skull.

11. I was sure the old fellow would never make it to the other side of the road when I struck him.

12. I saw a slow-moving, sad-faced old gentleman as he bounced off the hood of my car.

13. The indirect cause of the accident was a little guy in a small car with a big mouth.

14. I was thrown from my car as it left the road, and was later found in a ditch by some stray cows.

15. A pedestrian hit me and went under my car.

16. I thought my window was down, but I found out it was up when I put my head through it.

17. To avoid hitting the bumper of the car in front, I struck the pedestrian.

18. The guy was all over the road. I had to swerve a number of times before I hit him.

19. The pedestrian had no idea which way to run, so I ran over him.

20. An invisible car came out of nowhere, struck my car and vanished.

21. A truck backed through my windshield into my wife's face.

22. I pulled away from the side of the road, glanced at my mother-in-law, and headed over the embankment.

Life Quest Commentary

Being a Risk and Insurance Manager by profession, these accident reports touched a funny bone and I had a good laugh! And yet, at the same time, I considered how often it is that we try to minimize or excuse our faults and mistakes by blaming others or making up reasons why we are not accountable. We sometimes deceive even our very selves as we seek to hide our shame and guilt. It seems that it is a universal human condition that we seek to cover up our sins or blame someone else.

The first human beings that God created, Adam and Eve, tried to cover themselves with fig leaves to hide their shame after they broke God's commandment in the Garden of Eden. But God knew they had eaten the fruit of the tree he had forbidden them to eat. Their sin had separated them from fellowship with God.

Eve blamed Satan who had deceived her by saying that God was keeping something good from them and that God was lying when He said they would die if they ate the forbidden fruit. Then Adam blamed his wife, Eve, as the reason he had eaten the fruit.

God didn't accept their excuses; and He doesn't accept our excuses either.

The fact is that God knows the truth about us and He sees all of our sins. We can't hide anything from Him. Even worse, He holds us fully accountable for our sins and the Bible says that "the wages of sin is death...." This means our sin separates us from God (spiritually) and eventually it brings physical death as well.

Have you noticed that 100% of all people die? The problem of sin is universal to mankind and it is 100% fatal - just as God told Adam and Eve. And there is only one cure that God has ordained to take away our sins.

I'm so glad that the above verse doesn't stop there, leaving us dead in our sins without a remedy. Rather, it continues on to tell us the good news that "but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23

God has provided a way to forgive us our sins through Jesus Christ!!!

Also, in Romans 3:23-26 we are told:

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Whom God has set forth to be a propitiation (appeasement) through faith in His blood, to declare His righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

To declare, I say, a this time his righteousness: that He might be just, and the justifier of him which believes in Jesus.

The important question is, "Do you understand and believe that Jesus took your place? He died on the cross, taking the penalty for our sins upon Himself, so that we could receive forgiveness of our sins and the gift of eternal life through faith in Jesus!

If you have understood that Jesus died in your place and have already received His gift of eternal life, Praise the Lord!

If not, why not receive Him right now?

Take this opportunity to complete a "sin report":

1) Admit to God that you are a sinner;
2) Acknowledge your guilt and responsibility for your sins;
3) Prayerfully ask God to forgive your sins by believing that Jesus Christ, His Son, took the penalty for your sins upon Himself by dying in your place;
4) Receive, in faith, God's gift of eternal life with Him!
5) Rejoice that Jesus is coming again soon!

We encourage you to refer to the LIFEQUEST "Food for Thought" topics of Salvation and Gospel which will further explain what He has done for you, how much God loves you and give you more information about how to receive Jesus as your Savior and Lord.

God bless you and have a great day!
