'56 - '57 Reunion Committee News

Report #4, September 16, 2001

With our reunion just around the corner, classmates continue to climb aboard. We have 'helpers' out there beating the bushes and rounding up some of their friends that had thought they might not come. We're VERY glad to see a good number changing their minds! The "I'll Be There" list grows

I plan to send an email message this very evening to some who have said they aren't coming, a number of which I have been very much looking forward to seeing. It's been a LONG time.

There has been a great deal of interest and inquiry as to a 50 year anniversary event by the school. There is no plan that anyone knows of at present, but we'll see what comes to pass. Keep in touch, keep informed.

I guess that about covers it for now. SEE YOU NEXT MONTH!!

Rich

Report #3, April 15, 2001

WOW!! Pretty good response from our previous 2 mailings. Super!!

Just below this message is a report to you all in the form of a new mailing and copy of the questionnaire sent previously so those who haven't yet, lost the other one, or just didn't send one back yet have another chance to do it and get on the list.

I will put up an "I'll Be There!!" list soon, so we all can see who's planning to attend. It looks like a fun time with lots of freedom to visit and get around town as we like.

So if you haven't sent your questionnaire back yet, do it right away, and let's watch the list grow together.

We are still missing a good number of our classmates. Of the 460 +/- near half are still missing. Please help us find them. ANY information, new, old, or ancient WILL be helpful.

Watch for new names on the lists, and our next newsletter.

VERY much looking forward to October!

Rich

Report #2, February 12, 2001

As a reult of our first mailing, and the follow up address modifications several more of our classmates are 'found'. Big thanks to Gary Grady.

Today I put up more names on the lists, and let me tell you it is VERY happy work! Take a look at all those names in the orange color. Great!! But we still have a long way to go. There are still a lot of names that aren't there, and we're getting down to only 7 months til reunion weekend!!

C'mon everybody, put your thinking caps on and let's remember where we heard about someone or thought we knew someone is or was.

We are looking at a great time of visiting, and sharing, and just renewing old friendships! Just today via email I was able to connect Tom Clift and Dennis Barbee. No, they weren't from our classes, but I'll bet they just may know where someone we're looking for is or might be! Thre have been several other instances of 'hookups' since we got started, and there will be lots more. And, in October we're going to have one really great time.

Before long we'll have a pretty good idea of what dates most people prefer and will set it as our reunion weekend. Judging by the way last year flew by, it'll be here in no time at all!

Take care everyone, and stay well,
Rich Mays

Report #1, December 17, 2000

Some of our Reunion Committee members met in San Gabriel on July 11th (2000) and laid the groundwork to begin planning a reunion for next year. October was thought to be a good time of year, light travel month, generally pleasant weather nationwide, and not too much else going on. Next year is 45 years for the '56 Class.

We thought we'd be able to get a letter out to all those names we have addresses. It was November 6 when they finally went out. It ain't all as easy and cut and dried as it sounds! It' a powerful lot of work! Gary dropped 220 envelopes in the mail on November 6, and 45 more on December 2, based on updated or additional address information and feedback.

To date he has gotten back 54 answers, not too bad for a start, but I sure hope more folks will take a minute to drop us a line at the SGHS Reunion Committee Post Office Box in San Gabriel.

Let's all think real hard where we heard someone was, or even might have been. Every spec of information helps make the picture ever clearer, whether it is confirming of not confirming.

Should you hear of someone who didn't get a questionnaire, please let us and/or the know about our effort, and that we'd like to hear from them, pronto!

Please don't hesitate to visit SGHS-Alumni.org, too. This is a great place to pick up info and maybe reach out to old friends that were in other classes. Post a little message, maybe just say hi, but let folks know you're still around. You don't have to get specific or open the door to all who might come in, just say, "Hi. I'm around".

There is a great deal of interest in a fifty year celebration / reunion / homecoming, or something to mark the fiftieth anniversary of our school. So far the are no ideas of substance, and those interested are more interested in asking the  question than helping to bring forth an answer to it. We'll see about that after we get past this one

That's about it for now. We'll send out another communiqué in January, so everyone will be kept up to date on what's getting together, and how the details of our reunion are coming along.

I'll get back to you after that.

Happiest of Holidays to all, your families, and friends,
Rich Mays
