Good for you!

You've decided to venture back a ways.
I'm trying to keep the page "clean", yet maintain a high level of information for all to keep up/catch up on. I built this little hideaway for previous postings of newsie stuff. This is the place to check back and see how it's all be going along - - - -

Here's all that's been happening since . . . . .

C. late June
Here's a very hot item for you all.
SGHS Class of '58 is planning a reunion for September.
Gaylae (Koopman) Stanley, who has a reputation for doing a fine job of putting their
previous reunions together, is once again heading up the effort.
Congratulations Gaylae, and all you '58'ers!
I hope we'll be doing something similar in the foreseeable future.

Dateline - San Gabriel/Miami - July 1, 1997
Just talked with Sandy (Oliphant) Jones. As was related by Ben Cutter, she has
been in touch with some of our classmates, too, and has found that there is
substanital interest in a reunion, as have I.
We are planning to meet in California on July 17, compare notes and expand our
lists of those contacted, and hopefully, gather up a few of those nearby and 'go to school'.
Yup! Run down the road and pay a little visit to our Alma Mammy.
'Gonna be burnin' up some phone lines in the next several days to set this up.
Current thoughts are leaning towards a reunion in '99;
and even that far off, it'll take some doin'.
NOTE: Nothing is engraved in stone!
This is so far only a rough collection of opinions and ideas,
AND, if we don't have it yet, we want yours, too!

July 28 . . .
GREAT visit with Sandy; GREAT visit to school!!
What changes have taken place there. Will add some pics when opportunity permits.
Planning to visit with Lucia and Marilyn, here in Bakersfield, tomorrow.

August 7
Back home. Super fine visits in California. Sandy, School, Marilyn Sparling, Lucia Gardiner, Dick Phipps; and talks with Lynn Berry, Lana George, Glennn Blanset, and Marilyn Meyers from '58. TONS of information to process; lots of new address data to checkout and classmates to contact. Heartfelt Thanks to Victor Sandoval, Barbara Randolph, and all who were so kind and helpful at school. It was a real treat to walk there again, and the new construction is fantastic. Those of you who have not or cannot go look for yourselves, take a look below, and beleive this; you can truly be proud to lay claim to your school!

September 1
We have compiled a mailing list of 158 names and addresses from all reunion and record data available and are planning a mailing very shortly, probably within 10 days. We would be very appreciative if anyone listed on this page knows the wherabouts of anyone who is not listed here, and would send us an email and let us know. The total list of 'knowns' is now at 120, a little better than 106, but still a long way from the goal of 100%.
Sadly, we have confirmed five of our classmates deceased, and have the names of 2 more unconfirmed.
We have located some of the Class of '56. Sandy and Bob will be getting up a list of the whole class, and we'll be looking for them, too.
If I can catch a few minutes in the next several days, I'll put up a couple of pictures we took while 'at school' in July, (Haven't tried that action yet, but now is as good a time to learn as any, :) .)
DON'T FORGET, the Class of '58 is having a reunion this month. I'm sure that Gaylae (Koopman) Stanley stmgsbi@aol.com will be happy to provide you with any information you may want regarding the reunion.
Best wishes to all you '58 folks; wish I could be there too.
Last but not least, If you'd like your email address put up here for your classmates and friends please send me an email to that efect and it will be so. There have been some fun surprises, and I'm sure there'll be more.

Now the 25th of October. It's been a year and a few days since I first came upon the fine SGHS web site and started looking for old friends. So much has happened since then it's impossible to relate it all here. Getting together with Sandy and Bob, and visiting the school, talking to so many, all makes for a real feeling of enrichment and great satisfaction. Starting a search for old classmates quickly turned into the possibility, then probability of a '57 class reunion. The tradition of our '56 - '57 pairing came to light, and it all began to grow. There is a good deal of interest in a '56, '57, '58, '59 gathering, which would bring together people from the first class to graduate from SGHS, to the first class completing four full years there.

Here's the very latest, to December 18, 1998

Last Monday I left a pack of 156 envelopes in the outgoing box for the mailman to take; 156 letters to all of you for whom I have any kind of address at all.
It's Friday, December 18, and a sweet reward arrived via email this afternoon - the first response to that letter. Thank you Diana ;-)
Christmas right around the corner now limits what time will be available for updates, so it probably won't happen 'til after Christmas.
To all who happen by before the big day, may you and all you hold dear enjoy the finest, happiest Holiday ever, and we'll see you later.
(Hohoho - - If I could get 10 more names or email addresses to post, or any combination of the two, I'd post them in a heartbeat!!! Believe it!)

Consensus of those we've talked to favor a reunion. There's not much chance we could make it happen before the fall of 1999, at the earliest. No date has been mentioned, yet.
Possibility of a '56, '57, '58, '59 reunion has beenmentioned.

I had a super fine vacation in California this summer that was highlighted by a visit with Sandy and Bob Jones, our school, and then Marilyn Sparling, Lucia Gardiner, and Dick Phipps. I also spoke with Lynne Berry, Lana George, Glenn Blanset, and Marilyn Meyers ('58). Thanks go to Victor Sandoval, Barbara Rudolph, and all those at SGHS who made our visit a really memorable experience.

Plan A is to put up a list of '56 & '58 grads. (Ppphhheewww!!!) And, no, you won't have plow through miles of names to find your class' list. This cyberworld allows us to make things visible or invisible as we choose (check this out below).

I'm planning to make the lists 'visible' to you, for the class(es) of your chosing, any time you want to see it.The '57 list will always be visible here, but you'll be able to look at the list you want to see by clicking on its title. Then, voila, it'll appear as if by magic (and maybe it is just a little magic, too).Old news will disappear, but it too, will be reviewable in similar manner to the class lists. Look in 'OUR NOTEBOOK' below.

Lost of requests for reunion contacts. Not too many on record for earlier classes.
Will try to locate and post those I can find for classes through '60 - 61,
and refer any other requests I can.
If you know any of these contact people, please email their info to me.

Spring now just a few hours away, busy times on the reunion road.
MANY requests for info on reunions beyond '58. Looks like bothers and sisters, and maybe even some descendants of our '56 - '57 gang are looking for their class reunion contacts. I don't have all that info, but will try to forward, if and where possible.
I will put up a '56 found list like the one above shortly. I have a dozen or so positives, they come in sporadically. This is good, it means you are looking for each other, which is one of the results I'd hoped would come from this site.
Please note: If you are going on a cruise out of The Port of Miami, Port Evergaldes, or Palm Beach, let me know, and maybe we can get together for a quick coffee, or maybe more. I am 20 min. from MIA and The Port of Miami, 30 min. from Port Everglades, and 70 min. from Palm Beach.

Up above, in the spotlights, is the latest news!
Otherwise the search goes on, with more and more inquiries for and from other classes.
If you have realtives who attended or now attend SGHS, feel free to have them email me here, for now. When the new site is up and running it will be the best reference and iformation center, quite possibly one of the very best on the net. In the meantime, put on your thinking caps, and let's find more of our friends and classmates.

As you can see by the "Items" listed above in "Something New", the reunion philosophy is alive and well. C.'78 had a reunion not too long ago, c.'58 had one last September.
Are there plans in work for more? You bet!! C. '79 is seriously working on gathering their flock. Here we go, '56 & '57 Matadors, we can really be a help here. Some of those they are looking for may well be our kids, or brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, whatever!! No spoof, just pure fact!!
Is C. '60 looking toward reunion land? Keep an eye peeled here.
Watch for some changes here, hopefully changes that will help you get around here and find things a little easier. My mug shot's not that hard to find; and it's really not all that bad. :-)
I'm also working to set up a special section for other classes reunion effort news and helps. (This feature will live here until we get the new site in high gear, when it will become the prime source for complete and comprehensive SGHS reunion information.)
If you know, or know of any other class's reunion contact people, please let me know, or have them let me know so we can get them on the list for all to see.

Hello Matadors:
It is with great pleasure that I announce the opening of the new SGHS Alumni and Reunion Information web site.
This new site is dedicated to the collection and correlation alumni whereabouts, and reunion information data, and is intended to be a reliable and current source of reunion plans, schedules, and reports.
Countless Thanks to Victor Sandoval. He was my first contact with SGHS back in October 1997, and he has been a gigantic help with getting the reunion effort started. Without Victor, his help, his patience, and his knowledge, there would be no new site, and I would not be sending you this message.
At present two areas are open; Reunion Contacts, and the much requested (and missed) Alumni Entries area. Victor Sandoval was able to recover what we believe to be nearly all of the entries made prior to the failure of the area at the original SGHS site.
Thank you Victor, these have become alumni treasures, ones we would have been sad to lose.
We have work to do, updating and adding, and will move toward the level of accuracy and reliability you should have available, with all haste.
I want to thank all who have expressed their interest is the SGHS site, the restoration or replacement of it, and who have been a part of helping make Rich’s Place and ‘57 Matador as successful as they have been. You have shown that such a site is today’s way of helping us keep our school and class spirit up, and reunion interest going full throttle.
www.SGHS-Alumni.org is presently available by several routes. If you visit the old SGHS site, you’ll find a ‘New Location’ message and link to the new site. If you visit Rich’s Place, and/or ‘57 Matador, you’ll find links there. You can enter the URL and go there.
Please visit soon, and often, make an entry, and enjoy.
Rich Mays
