Elisabeth Airth McInnes

Elisabeth AIRTH was born Aug 2 1816 in Rutherglen, Lanark, Scotland,
the daughter of Sgt Henry AIRTH & Marion PARK.

Elisabeth spent her youth in Rutherglen, Lanark Scotland along with her siblings.
The family emigrated to Canada abt 1827
and eventually settled permanently in Renfrew Township, Renfrew Ontario.


Elisabeth married Angus McINNES
on Mar 22 1833.



A newspaper clipping states that
the bride and groom were both
'of the younger generation of Renfrewites'.

They were married by a Captain Bell
at the British Army post at Castleford,
as there was no church in Renfrew.

He had emigrated to Canada in 1827
with his brother John &
located on Lot 27 Con 5 McNab.


Elisabeth & Angus had 9 children:

According to family history, Elisabeth was so popular as a midwife,
that a number of babies in the Goshen area were named after her.


Another story tells of a time when as a young bride living in a log cabin,
she looked out to see 2 Indians planning an attack.
She either ran out back or scampered across the field
to fetch her brother-in-law John who lived on Con 6 McNab.
They returned in time to frighten off the men, who were trying to corner Angus McInnes!!

Elisabeth died May 6 1880 in McNab Township.
