At the urging of Sgt Henry AIRTH, Elisabeth's brother,
the HALLIDAY family decided to emigrate to Canada.
The children David, Esther and Marion were the first to come in 1848,
followed by the rest of the family in 1849.

The HALLIDAYs first stayed together in a primitive shanty,
which was soon replaced by a log house.

A fine stone house was built later and the property became known as 'Burnside.'
This land had first been deeded to Sgt Henry
and was sold to James HALLIDAY in 1856.

Elisabeth & James celebrated their 49th Wedding Anniversary on August 29 1864,
with James dying on November 17th of that memorable year.

Elisabeth died in her 91st year on February 22 1885 in Renfrew Ontario.
