James Airth

James AIRTH was born Aug 3 1833 in Horton Township Renfrew,
the 13th child of Sgt Henry AIRTH & Marion PARK
and the 2nd to be born in their new homeland.


Ophelia Angelina WRIGHT was born Aug 1838 in Farmersville (Athens) Renfrew,
the daughter of Israel Howland WRIGHT
(son of William Boltwood WRIGHT & Rachel WING)
& Fanny Maria STEVENS
(daughter of Abel STEVENS Jr & 1st wife, Ruth HUNTLEY)

James had an 'alliance' with Jane McINTYRE
and their son James AIRTH was born Sep 18 1865.
(Jane was born Feb 22 1835, the daughter of Peter McINTYRE & Mary STEWART)

James' parents, Sgt Henry & Marion AIRTH were still alive
and took the infant James into their home.

In turn, their son David AIRTH & wife Margaret McLaren BEAUCHAMP
took over the running of the home farm and young James is with them in the 1881 Census.
Also with them are David & Margaret's son Robert & wife Rebecca Forrester BLAIR.

James went on to marry Ophelia on Mar 27 1865 in Farmersville (Athens) Renfrew.

James & Ophelia had 2 children:

1) Frances Minerva Wright AIRTH born Feb 13 1866
married Feb 14 1888 to Rev James Alexander Kerr WALKER in Perth Lanark
(son of Rev William Stuart WALKER & Elizabeth PATON)


Fanny & James were missionaries to India from 1889 to early 1900s.


2) Henry Wright AIRTH born Oct 2 1867
married Sep 10 1914 to Mabel Irene ALBRIGHT (2 children)
(daughter of Moses Moyer ALBRIGHT [ALBRECHT] & Eliza RICE)




James worked as a shoemaker.
His cause of death is unknown at this point,
but he died at the very young age of 34,
on Dec 6 1867,
in Perth Lanark Ontario.

The following is his Last Will & Testament
made the VERY DAY of his DEATH !!


This is the Last Will and Testament of me, James AIRTH, Shoemaker,
of the village of Renfrew in the County of Renfrew,
Province of Ontario made this Sixth day of December 1867.

I give and bequeath unto David AIRTH, farmer of the village of Renfrew
and Alexander JAMIESON, tailor of the village of Renfrew
in trust first to pay all my just debts and testimonies and funeral expenses
and in trust to give to my wife Ophelia WRIGHT
the whole of my real and personal property
together with any expectency I may have hereafter come to me
for her sole use and benefit.

And I hereby constitute David AIRTH and Alexander JAMIESON
my executors under this, my last will and testament.

I hereby revoke any all my former wills and testaments in witnes thereof.
I the said James Airth the testator have to this
my last will and testament
set my hand and seal to this the only sheet thereto
the day and the year first herein written.

A few years passed and the young widow remarried,
to William MILLS
on Jul 9 1873 in Smith Falls, Lanark, Ontario.

Ophelia & William had 2 daughters:

1) Louisa Evans MILLS born Jun 15 1874
died Oct 31st 1890 in Renfrew Township

2) Ophelia Caroline MILLS born Oct 18 1875 in Renfrew Township
married Oct 27 1897 to Henry Edward LYON (11 children)

The family suffered tragedy when Ophelia died Sep 6 1876 in Farmersville,
shortly after the birth of her namesake child.

Ophelia's 2nd husband, William MILLS, died Jan 25 1911 in Denver Colorado.
