Martha Dickinson Collier

Martha DICKINSON was born Aug 9 1862 in Runcorn Cheshire,
the daughter of Jonathan DICKINSON & Mary BILSBURY
and named after her paternal grandmother, Martha OAKES.

At the time of her birth, her father was working as a 'boatman'.
Between 1862 and 1865,
they had all moved to her mother's 'home' area
of Pennington Leigh in Lancashire.

Son George age abt 11 years of age,
is obviously somewhere else during Census taking
because he is with his sister Martha, as a widower,
on the 1901 Census in Astley.

There is also the possibility that
another son Samuel age abt 5 years,

is with his brother, perhaps with relatives in Cheshire.

Sadly for the little family,
Jonathan died the following year at the young age of 34 yrs
and he was buried Jul 10 1872 in Leigh Cemetary Astley.

*Martha Dickinson (HADDOCK) married 2nd to *Thomas COLLIER
between Jul - Sep 1890, registered in Barton upon Irwell Lancashire.
For some strange reason,
she is listed as Martha DICKINSON on their marriage certificate
even though she had been married already ?

Thomas COLLIER was born abt 1861 in Astley,
the son of Aaron COLLIER & Lucy

Thomas & Martha had at least 4 children, all born Astley:

married Jane
John & Jane's infant son Wilfred, born Dec 20 1927

Naming a son from her 2nd marriage after her 1st husband
would seem to indicate that the 1st Alfred died young,
possibly under some tragic circumstances :-(
