Notes for John WHITNEY

[Famtree.ftw]

There were two births between Richard and Joshua, I have no names or
dates, probably stillborn.

John whitney was apprenctices 22 Feb 1607 to Willian Pring, a freeman of
the Merchant Tailor's Company of Old Bailey, London. On 13 Mar 1614, be
became a full-fledges member of this financially and politically powerful
organization. He married soon after taking up residence in
Isleworth-o-the-Thames. He moved to the City after his son Richard was
born. The Parish registers of St. Mary Aldermary indicate that he lived
in "Bow Lanne," near Bow Church. In early April, 1635, he registeres
with his family as passengers in the ship "Elizabeth & Ann," roger
Cooper, Master, which sailed a few weeks later. he signed an oath that
he was not a nonconformist. His age and those of all his family are
given as younger than they would have been actually. John was admitted
freeman 3 Mar 1636 and the following year he was elected as Selectman,
which office he held to 1655, when he was elected Town Clerk. On 1 June
1641, he was appointed Constable.
