Notes

[T59] ! The middle name of "Love" is according to an old Scottish custom of using the
mothers maiden name to identify the person. While the middle name may have been
understood or customary there is no evidience that Robert Baxter ever used it.

[T60] !SEE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF ROBERT WRIGHT BAXTER.

[T61] !THIS JANE LOVE WHO WAS THE SECOND WIFE OF RW BAXTER IS OFTEN CONFUSED WITH THE
THIRD WIFE ALSO NAMED JANE LOVE OR MCKINNON. OVER THE YEARS MANY FAMILY RECORDS,
TEMPLE
RECORDS AND OTHER SOURCES HAVE COME TO CONTAIN MANY MISTAKES. I HAVE PREPARED A
SUMMARY OF THE VARIOUS ORIGINAL RECORDS BUT MORE AND BETTER RESEARCH NEEDS TO
BE DONE. IF ANYONE HAS ORIGINAL RECORDS I WOULD VERY MUCH APPRECIATE A COPY OF
THEM.

[T63] !I BELIEVE THERE IS A BOOK ABOUT HIS LIFE IN THE CHURCH LIBRARY.

[T64] !FIRST WIFE- DIED IN SCOTLAND.

RECORDS FOUND IN LDS BRANCH RECORDS FILM 104152 MAYBOLE, SCOTLAND.

[T65] !THIRD WIFE OFTEN CONFUSED WITH SECOND WIFE.

Probably a mmrraige for time only as her first husband died on the plains just
before reaching Salt Lake.

[T66] !WORKED IN A DIVING BELL IN GLASGOW, LATER AT THE PTNA IRONWORKS.

[T67] !Some records show birth date as 11 June 1795.

[T68] !SEE DEATH CERTIFICATE.

MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE SHOWS FATHER JOHN BAXTER LIMESTONE MINER.

SEVERAL CHILDREN BORN AT STRAITON, MAYBOLE AND KIRKMICHAEL ALL ON SCOTTISH
CIVIL REGISTRATION AND IGI.

[T69] !I AM CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR CIVIL WAR RECORDS.

[T70] May be related to an Adam Donaldson of Ballygrot born 1759 died 1790 wife Ann
Thompson, buried Bangor Abbey Graveyard. Also Jane Donaldson born 1784, died
1808 wife of Robert McGowan of Crawfordsburn.

[T71] !SEE DEATH CERTIFICATE lists parents as Robert Baxter and Mary Baxter formerly
Donaldson.

[T148] THIS ROBERT BAXTER MAY BE THE BROTHER OF A JOHN BAXTER AND ROBERT BAXTER WHO
DIVIDED A SMALL FARM IN DROMORE PARISH IN ABOUT 1796. ALSO MENTIONS A WILLIAM
BAXTER AND DRUMLOUGH WHICH IS IN KILLINCHY PARISH. THIS LEASE MENTIONS A ROBERT
WARD OR WAID WHO ALSO IS MENTIONED IN AN AGNEW LEASE OF THE SAME PERIOD. I
BELIEVE THIS IS THE SAME FAMILY BUT HAVE ONLY THIS CIRCUMSTANTIAL EVIDENCE.

The following is found in the 1812 Poll book (Voting Register) for 1815.
Robert Baxter of Donaghadee Freehold in Donaghadee, Landlord Daniel
DeLacharious, for Lives of Robert Baxter, Martha Beggs, and Daniel Beggs
registered in Donaghadee 1815. "Lives" means the three people named in the
lease on the land that qualifies the voter for the property required to get the vote.
There is a Martha Beggs widow of Thomas Beggs and mother of and Elinor
Beggs making a marriage contract in 1789 in Belfast for her daughter Elinor
about to marry a Stephenson-Ferguson. The husband is deceased Merchant of
Dublin. Also there are a number of Beggs with tombstones in the Donaghadee
graveyard. This shows that Robert Baxter was a man of property and alive in
Donaghadee in 1815. There is also a Martha Beggs, daughter of James Beggs, of
Glastry Down who married
a William Harper in about 1820 of Donaghadee- They had a son George Agnew Harper
in Donaghadee in 1820. I believe the Agnew connection is through the Harpur
line.

An old family group sheet by W.B. Nielsen? shows a birth date of abt. 1754 for
Robert and abt. 1778 for Mary Donaldson. If this is based on some personal
knowledge of Robert Wright Baxter who did Temple work in 1895 it may imply a
second marriage and place Robert Baxter's birth almost 20 years previous to
what was thought.

Also see Ireland register of Deeds Vol 796, page 198 #537733 Film 467290.
William Baxter to Hamilton about 1814
William Baxter of Ballymenetragh Down Farmer and James Hamilton of Gransha Down Farmer. Townland of Ballymenetragh parish of Bangor, 4 acres, lease, animals, furniture, farm equipment etc.
Wit: David Evans of Belfast, Alexander Perry
Registered 15 Oct 1824.

I believe this may be a brother or other relation of Robert Baxter. Ballymenetragh is the long time residence of the Wright family also. This appears to a selling out entry. Where was he emmigrating too?

[T333] Could this be the Martha Beggs found on the three lives of Robert Baxter voting
register of 1815? The later entry after the supposed death of Robert Baxter
shows Mary Beggs.

[T334] See autobiography, "Life of Baxter". Stake President Randolph Utah.

[T335] TEMPLE RECORDS SAY OF ENGLAND AND OF DONAGHADEE. 1891 CENSUS OF BALLANTRAE
STATES PLACE OF BIRTH AS BALLANTRAE SCOTLAND.

TEMPLE RECORDS ALSO SHOW NAME AS HOOD.

[T353] Robert Wright Baxter performed Baptisms for the dead in the Endowment House on
14 Oct. 1874 for John Adair of Ireland and gave a relationship of "Nephew"
along with a Margaret Baxter Adair of Ballyvester "Nephew". also listed James
Adair Jr. Cousin and Mary Ann Adair cousin.
