Bunnicula: A Rabbit-Tale of Mystery
I read Bunnicula as a classroom project. Some of the assignments we had to do made this book quite interesting. Did you know that Bunnicula is called a " portmanteau"? Bunnicula is the name of a rabbit that comes to live in the Monroe house. His name is a portmanteau of bunny and Dracula, because the Monroes found him when they went to see the movie, Dracula. One of the most famous portmanteaus is "Jabberwocky" from Alice Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll. The story is told by Harold, the Monroe family dog, who is not bothered by the new arrival. However, Chester, the suspicious and very imaginative family cat, is convinced that Bunnicula is a vampire out to hurt the entire family. He tries to convince Harold, but Harold's common sense doesn't let him get caught up in Chester's nonsense. Chester, who is determined to protect his family, just ends up in trouble over and over again. The authors are very creative in this book, which is actually quite funny. It is rated by some lists as a 3rd Grade level and is pretty easy reading. ![]() This book is a great gift to give a friend and can be purchased through Amazon.
