Climb or Die
Climb or Die by Edward Myers is a 1997-98 Hoosier Award Nominee for Sixth through Eighth Grades. The Darcy Family is heading for their cabin in the Colorado mountains. This wasn't how Jake and Danielle wanted to spend the weekend, but Dad wanted to get away and take up supplies for the winter. On the way, they get caught in a freak blizzard. They can't see the road in front of them. Jake, Danielle and their mother argue for Dad to stop, but he thinks they can make it to the cabin. The adventure begins when the car goes off the road and is stuck on a cliff in snow. Dad hit his chest against the steering wheel and Mom's knees slammed against the dashboard. After spending the night in the car running the engine every so often to keep warm, Danielle and Jake take off to a weather station on top of a nearby mountain. The story tells of how everyone took necessary steps to survive in the wilderness until help could arrive. If you are interested in mountain climbing, it will be even more interesting for you.
