Dead Letter:
A Herculeah Jones Mystery

by Betsy Byars

Dead Letter by Betsy Byars is a 1998-99 Hoosier Award Nominee for Fourth through Sixth Grades.

This is another Herculeah Jones mystery. In this episode, Herculeah Jones buys a coat at a used clothing store. She discovers a note in the lining that made her believe the person who used to own the coat was murdered. Herculeah is not a person to forget such things and always needs to search out the answers. After sneaking around the dead lady's house, she is almost ran over by a car. Someone does not want her to find her answer!

Rating:

I usually enjoy mysteries, but I didn't find this one real believable. Also, Herculeah consults a person who analyzes handwriting, and as a Christian, I think this is evil. I am sure other kids will probably enjoy this book; I just didn't care for it that much. You can purchase Dead Letter through Amazon.
