He who doesn't read has no advantage over he who cannot read.
~~Mark Twain~~
I love to read. It opens up so many different doors. You can go anywhere in the world, you can do anything you want, you can learn about anything you want!
Every time my parents take us to a book store, they say "It's no wonder we are an illiterate nation. No one can afford to buy books!" Well, Kirsten and I get our share of books and have started our own libraries. Mostly the books in our libraries are classics like Treasure Island, The Hobbit, and The Chronicles of Narnia. Kirsten likes Winnie the Pooh so she has lots of those books. We are glad our parents think it is important to start your own libraries at an early age.
We go to the public library almost every week to check out books. Since we were read to as babies, part of our "getting to bed" routine is reading and we go through a lot of books in a week.
Someone suggested we should do reviews on all the books we read. Others would know if they might like them. In our reviews Kirsten and I try to explain each story, even the ones we didn't like. We don't give away the story, but just enough to get your interested. If we don't like a book, it doesn't mean you won't like it. We usually give the reason we didn't it, so you will know.
Except for the out of print ones, we link all our book reviews to Amazon Books' Secured Order Site. The prices are discounted and usually not as expensive as in the stores. You find both books and musical gifts on their site.
It's hard to know where to start such a big project. We decided to start with the 1998-99 Hoosier Award Nominees. The 1999-2000 Award Nominees have already been announced, but we probably won't start reviewing those until we finish with all the 1998-99 Nominees. I only have one more Hoosier Nominee to read for grades 4th-6th, but there are a few in the 6th-9th that interest me too.
We organized the books according to the Award Lists they were on. Even the books we haven't reviewed are linked to Amazon. As we review books, we add them to our personal "Reviewed Books" lists.
The 1999-2000 Hoosier Award Nominees have been announced. We won't be reading and reviewing them for a while, but we have linked them to the Amazon.com site. |
