Our Christmas Traditions

Well every year we start on November 11th.

My mom tells us all if we don't have our list in by then

we are out of luck.

Then a few weeks after that, oh say a couple

we start getting the christmas decorations out of the barn.

Over the years my parents have collected a lot of decorations.

So everybody in the area can see a glow for miles from our house.

Usually the men do the outside and the women do the inside.

That's how it was until us kids moved away.

Now Mom and Richard do it all together.

I used to love it at my house at christmas time.

After we would get all of the decorations up I would wait until it was

real dark outside and then I would go out and just walk around

the house and take in all the christmas spirit that filled our yard.

It was so peaceful and quite just watching the christmas lights

blink on and off and feeling the cold air as you walked.

We lived out in the middle of no where so it made it even better.

Then when christmas rolled around Shawn, my brother would go wake me

up and tell me that Santa Claus had come and to go see

all the presents. I was so excited.

I remember my mom used to write

To: Heather

From: Santa

It was so sweet.

Our christmas was always organized. Since there was so many of us

we needed to keep some order.

So around 8 am my stepsisters, Becky and Robin

would come over to the house and we would all sit in the living room

and open our presents one at a time to see what each got and to say thank you.

It took a while but who cares, spending time with your family and talking

is what Christmas is all about.

Then after we got done with opening all of our presents we would get

our stockings down and find out what was in them

I always loved that.

Mom always got us boxers and candy and razors.

Oh and fancy underwear. (~ smile ~)

After that it was about 12 noon and everybody else from

out of town would come to our house and we would exchange presents

and have lots and lots of food. Our house was always

filled with family.

Well that's about it I am glad that you stopped by to see how we spend our

Christmas.

I was happy to share it with you.

I hope you and yours get to spend a wonderful christmas together

like we got to.

Merry Christmas!
