ARCHDEACON WILL Lezayre 1874 #11 FHL Film #0106276: This is the last will and testament of me John Cowley of Crammag in the parish of Lezayre who from due consideration of the uncertainty of this transistory life do make publish and declare this my last will in manner following: First I leave devise and bequeath unto my second son Thomas Cowley also of the parish of Lezayre all and singular the whole of the estate and those lands and premises to me belonging called and known by the name of Creggan (Rocky Place) and Lhergy Voar and which estate lands and premises were purchased by me from John Stephen Coroner of Ayre Sheading by Deed of Sale bearing date the Twenty forth day of January One thousand eight hundred and sixty seven the same being bounded on the north by the lands of Thomas Cowley (Close) and John J. Quayle of Ballaskella on the East by the lands called Tholt e Wille on the south by the mountain called Dreem Corrody and the lands called Corrody on the west - To have and to hold the same with all appurtenances to the same belongingin or in anywise appertaining unto these said Thomas Cowley his heirs and assigns absolutely forever. Provided nevertheless that if my said son Thomas Cowley die without leaving lawful issue living at this decease then the said lands and premises of the Creggans and Lhergy Voar hereinbefore limited to him shall revert to my heir at law subject upon the less to and charged and chargeable with the right to my said son Thomas's wife (should he ever have a wife) of dower or widow right in and to the said lands and premises and also further subject to and chargeable with the right to my said son Thomas Cowley to mortgage and encumber the said estate lands and premises of the Creggan and Lhergy Voar to the amount of three hundred pounds sterling to be expended by him as he may think proper - and I hereby will and direct Thomas the said sum of three hundred pounds shall be and the same are hereby declared to be a good lien and charge upon the said estate lands and premises of the Creggan and Lhergy Voar herein before described and I also further leave and bequeath to my said son Thomas Cowley two cows and two heifers and I hereby will that he shall be allowed to choose the cattle from herd of cattle and I also leave him the one half of my stock of sheep as legacy. Secondly I leave and bequeath unto my two daughters namely Ann Quayle wife of John J. Quayle of Ballaskella and unto Elizabeth Craine wife of Thomas Craine of Kerlane the sum of one hundred pounds sterling each as legacy. Thirdly I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Eleanor Margaret Cowley the sum of three hundred pounds sterling as legacy. Fourthly I leave and bequeath unto my son William Cowley the sum of two hundred pounds sterling as legacy. Fifthly I leave and bequeath to all and every person or persons claiming under this my will the sum of six pence as legacy. Sixthly I leave and bequeath unto the Wesleyan Missionary Society the sum of twenty pounds sterling as legacy. And I hereby will and direct that neither of the hereinbefore described legacies except my son Thomas Cowley's are payable or to be paid until two years after my death. And I give devise and bequeath unto my on John Cowley all and singular the whole of the residue and remainder of my real estate of every description and the whole of the remainder of my personal estate goods chattels and effects of whatever description the same may be subject nevertheless to and chargeable with the payment by my said son John Cowley of the hereinbefore described legacies and all my debts and funeral expenses - And I hereby will and direct that in the event of my personal estate being insufficient to pay off and discharge the before mentioned legacies that the deficiency or whatever portion of the aforesaid legacies or sums of money bequeathed by me and all my debts and funeral expenses that shall and will remain unpaid after my personal estate is exhausted shall be and the same are hereby declared to be a good lien and charge upon the lands and premises bequeathed to and possessed by my said son John Cowley called and known by the name of Rush Close situate in the parish of Lezayre aforesaid in the hands of the said John Cowley his heirs or assigns and I hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said son John Cowley sole executor of this my last will and testament. I declare this alone to be my will and I revoke all other wills made by me. In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this the Nineteenth day of July One thousand eight hundred and seventy two. William Curphey Faragher and Thomas Caley two of the subscribing witnesses to the execution of the foregoing paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of John Cowley late of Crammag in the parish of Lezayre, deceased having made oath on the Holy Evangelists that said testator John Cowley when of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding duly signed and acknowledge the same as and for his last will and testament in their presence and at the same time in the presence of John Killip the other witness and that they at the same time in the presence of the said testator and of each other subscribed the same in attestation thereof John Cowley the son of the deceased the executor named in said will is therefore sworn well and truly to fulfil and execute the said will and to administer all and singular the personal estate and effects of the said deceased according to law by paying the just debts and funeral expenses of the said deceased and the legacies contained in his said will so far forth as his estate and effects will thereto extend and the law bind him and to return to the Archdeacon's Registry of the Isle of Man a full true and perfect inventory of all and singular the said estate and effect with an accurate account of his administration thereof when thereunto lawfully required and to these ends he hath given pledges namely William Curphey Faragher of the Close e Volley and Thomas Kelly of Lhergyrhenny both in the parish of Lezayre who have entered into and executed the usual bond in the presence of the court. This is the last will and testament of me Ann Quayle of the Creggan
sum of five pounds each as legacy. I leave and bequeath to my two daughters Elizabeth Emily and Julia Frances the sum of twenty pounds each as legacy., I leave and bequeath to my daughter Eleanor Theresa the sum of one hundred pounds and the whole of my household furniture as legacy I leave and bequeath to my son Francis Henry those four cottages situated in Sulby Glen, Lezayre, and also the whole of my stock of both sheep and cattle and I also leave him residuary legatee. I nominate and appoint my brother John Cowley of Druidale Michael executor of this my last will and testament In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this the 29th day of May 1905. Whereas Ann Quayle of this Creggan Lezayre mother of the said Eleanor Theresa Quayle did by her last will bearing date 29th day of May 1905 and which will was admitted to probate on the 15th day of May did leave and bequeath unto the said Eleanor Theresa Quayle the sum of one hundred pounds with the whole of her household furniture as ]egacy. And whereas the said John Cowley has paid the said Eleanor Theresa Quayle the said sum of one hundred pounds and also the whole of the household furniture. This deed therefore witnesseth that the said Eleanor Theresa Quayle doth hereby own and acknowledge to have received from the said John Cowley the said sum of one hundred pounds and also the whole of the household furniture and in consideration thereof she doth hereby release the said John Cowley from any further claim or demand in respect of the said sum of one hundred pounds and furniture. Also Elizabeth Jane only daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Craine died in London Sept 21st 1944, whose remains are both here interred.
