The humble petition of Jane Cowley and others the next of kin of John Cowley late of the parish of Lezayre deceased.

Sheweth: That the said John Cowley departed this life on or about the 26th of December last intestate.

That the goods and effects which belonged to the deceadent requires immediate attention and it is necessary that some proper person be appointed to take charge thereof. Your petitioner therefore prays a hearing hereof and that your Worship may be pleased to grant administration of the said deceadents estate in the usual manner for the benefit of all parties concerned.

And your Petitioners shall pray.

Ordered that this petition do come on to be heard before me at an Ecci Court to be held in Ramsey on Friday the 26th instant whereof all proper parties and persons to have due notice.

At an Ecci Court held in Ramsey the 26th January 1844 upon hearing this petition in presence of the parties and their advocates and it appearing that John Cowley late of Lezayre some time ago departed this ]ife intestate leaving John Cowley his eldest son Jane Cowley, Anne Cowley and Thomas James Cowley (all of whom are minors except the said John Cowley ) his issue and next of kin who along with Jane Cowley widow of the decease are decreed so]e administrators of all and singular the goods rights credits chattels and effects of the said deceadent. and Thomas Cow]ey of Narradale in the said parish being recommended to act as Administrator in Trust for the said parties interested the said Thomas Cowley is therefore sworn in trust well and truly to administer the personal estate and effects of the said deceadent according to law to pay all his just debts and funeral expenses so far forth as the goods will extend and the law bind him, and to return to the Episcopal] Registry of this Diocese a full] true and perfect inventory of the said estate with an accurate account of all his acts and proceedings in the premises when then unto lawfully required and to these ends he has given pledges namely John Cowley of Crammag and J. Cowley of the Clanagh in Lezayre who in presence of the court have entered into a bond in due form of law and Capt John Corlett of the Kella and the petitioner Jane Cowley are hereby appointed and sworn guardians and supervisors over the said minors Jane Cowley, Anne Cowley and Thomas James Cowley and to return to the Episcopal Registry a full true and perfect account of their acts and proceedings in the prernises when thereunto lawfully required. That your petitioners mother Jane Cowley of the Cleanagh in the said parish of Lezayre a few days ago departed this life intestate. That it is necessary that administration of estate and effects should be granted to some fit and proper person.

Wherefore petitioner humbly prays a hearing hereof and that your Worship may be pleased to grant administration of the estate and effects of the said Jane Cowley to some fit and proper person. And Petitioner will pray. Richard Sherwood

this life on the .23d day of March 1871 and died intestate and whereas at Ecclesiastical Court held at Douglas on the 30th day of March 1871 John Cowley her son was sworn administrator of the said Jane Cowley's estate and whereas her daughter Jane wife of Thomas Kneen late of the Isle of Man but now of the City of Rochester, State of New York, North America is entitled to the sum of twenty two pounds from the goods chattels and effects of the said estate and also the sum of fifty three pounds being her share or moiety of the sum of one hundred pounds left to the said Jane Cowley by a Deed of Trust granted by her father John Cowley of Crammag to his son John Cowley Junior dated the 17th day of May 1844 together with al] interest due thereon up to the dates hereof. Now know all men by these present that we Thomas Kneen and my wife do hereby own and acknowledge to have received from the said administrator John Cowley the sum of seventy five pounds in full payment satisfaction and discharge of our said share or moiety of the said late Jane Cowley' 5 estate and we do exonerate release acquit and discharge the said administrator John Cowley his executors and administrators of and from all further claim or liability whatever on account of or against the estate of the said Jane Cowley deceased. And whereas at an EccI Court held at Douglas on the 30th day of March 1871 John Cowley her son was sworn administrator of the said Jane Cowley's estate. This is the last will and testament of me John Cowley Cleanagh in the parish of Lezayre being through the abundant mercy of God though wake in body and much afflicted by pains yet of a sound mind and understand and judgement to give this my last will and testament in writing. First I commit my soul to God and my body to Christian burial. Secondly I do leave and bequeath the sum of 50 each as legacy to my two sisters viz Jane the wife of Thomas Kneen and Ann the wife of Edward Chandler who now resides in America but in case any of these my sisters or both of them shall depart this natural life before becoming legally entitled to the above legacy the said legacy shall not recovered by any of their successors heirs administrator or assigns but shall be left to the sole benefit of my heirs executors administrators and assigns.

Thirdly I do leave and bequeath as legacy the sum of twenty pounds to Catherine Oates my house keeper formerly wife of Robert Oates deceased.

Fourthly I do leave as legacy the sum of five shillings to any person or persons who may lay claim to or against this my last will and testament. Fifthly I do leave and bequeath all the rest and residue of all my goods and effects moveable and immoveable moneys, chattels, lands, crops, stock, household furniture and farming utencils to my brother Thomas James Cowley whom I nominate constitute and appoint whole and sole executor of this my last will and testament and by these presence I do further bind and oblige my said brother Thomas James Cowley that he is neither to sell or mortgage any parts or parcels of any part or parcel of the lands or premises neither is he the said Thomas James Cowley my brother to cut any of the forest trees planted round the dwelling house and out offices be it further know that the said Thomas James Cowleyts wife or daughters are to have no right or title to any of the said lands or premises but that at or immediately after the decease of the said Thomas James Cowley my brother the said lands and premises are to become the whole and sole property of Thomas Cowley Junior son of the said Thomas James Cowley.

I do further subject to the said Catherine Oats my estate to the payment of four pounds per year after my decease to be paid yearly and every to the said Catherine Qates during the term of her natural life by the said Thomas James Cowley my brother and heir at law to my estate his heirs executors administrators and assigns.

Claddaugh in the parish of Lezayre deceased who died on the 14th day of March 1885 Thomas James Cowley of the Claddaugh aforesaid a brother of the testator the executor in the said will named is sworn well and

truly to fulfil and execute the said will and codicil and to administer the personal estate of the said deceased according to law.

In loving memory of Thomas James Cowley of Clanagh Road, Sulby, died Feb 8th 1904 aged 72 years. Margaret Cowley wife of the above died Nov. 13th 1892 aged 65 years. Sarah Jane Cowley daughter of the above died Jan 5th 1916 aged 57 years. Catherine Ann Cowley aged 4 years.

The humble petition of Sarah Jane Cowley of Clenagh in the parish of Lezayre spinster and Robert Carr and Margaret his wife of Kerrowmoar in the said parish of Lezayre.

Sheweth:

I. That Thomas James Cowley of Cleanagh aforesaid departed this life on the 8th day of February 1904 having first duly made and executed his last will and testament bearing date the 1st day of February 1900 whereof he appointed John Cowley of Druidale in the parish of Michael sole executor.

2. That the said John Cowley has renounced Probate of the said will] and your petitioners are desirous that administration of the estate of the said Thomas James Cowley with his said will annexed be granted to Percy William Brooke of Abbeville in the said parish of Lezayre. Wherefore your petitioner humbly pray a hearing hereof and that your Honour may be pleased to grant administration of the said estate of the said Thomas James Cowley with his said will annexed to the said Percy William Brooke or to some other fit and proper person and your petitioners will ever pray.

This is the last will and testament of me Thomas James Cowley of the Cleanagh in the parish of Lezayre. I being of sound mind memory and understanding at the making hereof, After payment of my just debts and my funeral and testamentary expenses I leave and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Jane the sum of one hundred pounds and also the whole of my household furniture and I leave the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate including farm stock crop implements and money to me belonging at my death unto my two daughters Sarah Jane and Margaret wife of Robert F. Carr eqilally, share and share alike for their own personal use and that their receipts only shall be a legal discharge for the same or any part whereof, or any interest arising on the same.

I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my cousin John Cowley of Druidale sole executor in trust and J hereby revoke all former wills by me made and witness my name this the 1st day of February one thousand nine hundred 1900.
