EPISCOPAL WILL Lezayre 1712 from Manx Museum: I Jon Mcylecarane of KK Lezayre, being sick in body but of sound and perfect memory, thanks be to God for the same, and calling to mind the uncertainty of this life, do make this my last will and testament in manner following: First I commend my soul to Almighty God and my creator ----- steadfastly that I shall receive full pardon and remission of my sins throught the blood of Christ my savior, and my Body to the earth from when it came to be buried after such --- manner as my executrix hereof named---- Item I give and bequeath to my son Thomas the two parts of all my land and the third part of my land to my son William during his lifetime and after his decease to return to Thomas to run as Heiship, with the two other parts and if Thomas shall died without issue, the land then to fall to Jon and so from child to child. Item I will and desire my son Thomas to give and pay his brother Jon 20 shillings and his sister Catherine five shillings and his sister Isabel five shillings and to his brother William six shillings. Item I leave and bequeath my loving wife Margaret as legacy a mare and a colt. Item I leave and bequeath my son Thomas and William all the husbandry gears plows irons spades or any other sorts whatever that belongs to the land, and four of the best sheep I have. Item I will and desire my two sons Thomas and William to work the land an my executors hereafter named to sow it viz, such a course as usually work under. Item I will and desire my son Thomas to give his brother William the funnin gof a cow, winter and summer and what land was named in Mary Qualtrough's contract that they should have it in case they recovered it. Item I declare my brother William oweth me thirty shillings and the executor of Charles Sayle 28 shillings, William Kelly Ballama has--- I leave the Reverend Mr Tear a mutton. Lastly I constitute and appoint my three children Jon, Catherine, and Isabell sole executors of all the rest of my goods moveable and immoveable and all my children--- like towards my funeral charges. Margaret wife to the within Jon McY]ecarane gave her consent that the land should descend and fall as her husband willed it, save her own part of Kisage Close. The within Jon McYlcarane willed and desired that none of the goods should be moved or divided for the space of two years. ARTICLES OF MARRIAGE BETWEEN THOMAS MCYLECHARANE AND JANE CALLOW 1719: Articles of Marriage condescended and agreed upon by and betwixt Margarett McYlecharane alias Kindred and William McYlecharane, both of Jurby, Mother and brother to Thomas McYlecharane for and in behalf of the said Thomas McYlecharane on the one part and William Callow of Bailneskeig in the parish of KK Maughold for and in behalf of his daughter Jane Callow on ye other pan as followeth: The said young couple Thomas McYlecharane and Jane Callow is to enter into the Holy Estate of Matrimony all or before the first day of December next ensuing the date hereof if God and Holy Church permit. 2ndly the above said Margaret McYlecharane doth hereby settle upon the young couple after her decease all the lands that she gave consent to in her husband's last will as appears by the said will and also her whole right title or interest in or to apparell of intack land, commonly called and known by the name of Cloase ey Kyssage situated in Jurby parish and all the said lands is to full and defend as inheritance for ever after and also she gives them all the whole crop ye belongs to her and all this after her decease and in case she dyes in winter halfs years all the time of keeping their cattle in their houses yet then the said young couple is taking her catfie and their own cattle until such time as their own beat goes to the crop and also the question all materials belonging to husbandry after her decease as before for and in consideration of all this the said young couple dot obilige themselves to pay or cause to be paid after he rdecease when they enter in possess of the Close ey Kyssage the sum of thirteen pounds sterling money ---whomsoever--- the said Margaret Mcylecharane's will be pleased to bequeath the same to --- her last will. William McYlecharane whose father left him part of his asforesaid lands for his maintenance during the course of his natural life doth hereby bind and oblige himself to deliver the said lands into the said young couples hands and management during his lifetime and also after his decease all his part of the said lands is to fall and descend to the said couple or their heirs as to fall and defend ---inheritance and --- the said young couple oblliging themselves to maintaining during his natlural life and of Close ey Kyssage in the same 4thly (no Thirdly) the said William Callow doth hereby endow and settle upon the young couple the full and just sum of twelve pounds sterling money. The one half thereof to be paid when the said young couple is married a twelve month and a day and the other half thereof to be paid within three years time after as they have occasion to call for the same ye said couple acquitting and discharging him for all the money and goods due to the said Jane Callow his daughter by her mother's decease. 5thly and lastly for the time and faithful performance of al] and singular the above artles and agreement, all parties hath caused the same to be with to bound themselves each to the other in y penalty or forfeiture of sixteen pounds sterling to be paid in the nature of all other fines and forfeitures and in testimony whereof have hereunto sett their hands and seals this 11th of November 1719. Bod die -WM McYlcarane enters a claim against the executor of John McYlcarane the executor of the last will of Margt McYlcarane als Kinred for a heifer of three years old bequeathed unto him by the said Margaret and craves the law. Annexed to the inventory of John McYlcarane - July the 10th 1738 the widow of Thomas Callister promises to pay widow Cowley 3 shillings in full within three weeks for the fees by her laid out on account of the minor and is agreed upon by them that the shepherd is to have a third part of the sheep for the herding of them. KK Michael March 21st 1766 - The claimer having proved the sum of six shillings and five pence the like sum being due the claimer by the decedent's son ordered the same be discharged with all fines to the Sumner of Lezayre who if disobeyed is to apply for a soldier. Received from John Cowley (Soal) the sum of one pound and seven shillings with attending fees being one shilling and five pence being the sum mentioned in an order bearing date the 14 of June as also for a legacy left and bequeathed by Isabel Corlet alias McYlecarane on him to pay towards the school of Sulby in Lezaire parish and say received by the pursuant to said order this 17th Day of April 1766 Ewan Crow junior of Lezayre.
